CRACKER Barrel has announced the closure of yet another restaurant, leaving one state without a location after a wave of shutdowns.

The latest store closure has claimed the last Cracker Barrel in Oregon.

The Medford restaurant has a recorded greeting confirming the closure and asking people to check online to find the nearest location, the NBC affiliate reports KOBI.

Last year, locations in Beaverton, Tualatin and Bend closed due to issues arising from the pandemic.

The US Sun contacted Cracker Barrel for more information about why this location is closing.

But customers think they know why the chain closed.

“It’s never a shock when a place with overpriced and subpar (at best) food closes abruptly. It’s a shock that they last as long as they do,” one person wrote in response to a Facebook post which announced the closure.

“Their food was like eating frozen TV dinners. There won’t be any shortage,” commented another person.

Some people called the food “expensive and disgusting” but said they would miss the gift shop out front.

“Fun gift shop, bad food,” one person wrote.

“I only went there for the gift shop. They gave me really cold food the last time I ate there,” said another customer.

“They offered me a free pie, but it was the wrong kind. I didn’t try it again after that.”

A GREAT CLOSURE

Cracker Barrel closed two other locations this month.

One is in Columbia, South Carolina, and the other is in Sacramento, California.

At the Columbia restaurant, a similar voicemail message alerted guests to the closure.

“Thank you for calling Sandhill Cracker Barrel. This location has been permanently closed,” the message said.

“We invite you to visit one of our more than 160 locations in 44 states.”

A note on the door read: “To our Sandhill community – thank you for over 15 years in the community.”

“We are honored to welcome guests to a home away from home at our store and value the opportunity to be a part of so many special occasions for our guests and community.

“We are deeply saddened to announce that this location has closed.”

Store closing summary

BOSSes at several major retailers have announced a series of store closures. The US Sun analyzes which chains will be impacted.

  • Walmart supermarkets in El Cajon, California, and Columbus, Ohio, closed this year.
  • Walmart also closed a Neighborhood Market store in San Diego, California.
  • Another Neighborhood Market store in Milwaukee will close within weeks.
  • At least 150 Macy’s stores in the U.S. are expected to close over the next three years. Among the outlets scheduled to close is the chain’s flagship store in Union Square, San Francisco.
  • Dollar Tree bosses have announced that 600 Family Dollar stores will close this year. But the strikes don’t stop there, as another 370 points of sale are expected to close.
  • About 30 Dollar Tree stores will also close.
  • Best Buy bosses have confirmed 24 outlets will close during the company’s 2024 fiscal year.
  • The future of 99CentsOnly stores appears uncertain after the discount chain filed for bankruptcy. More than 350 stores could end up closing

Cracker Barrel told local news outlet WLTX that the store was closed due to “performance” issues.

“As a normal business routine, we continually evaluate the performance of our stores, using various criteria to ensure we are meeting the needs of our guests and our business,” the chain said in a statement.

“The decision to close a store is never taken lightly and our focus now is on helping our affected employees through this transition.”

Fortunately for fans, two locations remain in the Columbia area.

The Sacramento location was only open for less than six years before closing its doors.

A video shared on Reddit showed the establishment was boarded up and the parking lot was empty.

A note on the door read: “To our Sacramento community, we are honored to welcome guests to a home away from home at our store and have valued the opportunity to be a part of so many special occasions for our guests and community for nearly six years.”

“We are deeply saddened to announce that this location has closed.”

There are five other Cracker Barrel stores in the state.

Another popular restaurant chain recently announced that most of its locations will close soon.

Plus, an iconic ice cream shop is closing its doors for good.
