Kroger has ditched some of its paper bags, leaving shoppers begging for change on platforms like X.
A Chicago resident begged the grocer to bring back the handles for convenience.
“Why do you now have paper bags without handles?” asked user X. “We are city people who walk to and from places. We need handles. Please and thank you.”
Another customer begged Kroger to reinstate the handles, claiming she no longer shopped there because of the bag policy.
“I’m begging you to bring back the handles on your paper bags, I don’t want to have to walk across town to the other grocery store anymore,” she wrote.
Others also expressed their frustration with paper bags.
“What happened to the handles on the brown paper bag? You have the prettiest brown bag and now you’ve taken the handles off? Why?” said one Kroger customer.
“Seriously, now you’ve cut the handles off your bags?! How do you carry and pull your groceries home?” wrote another, sharing an image of their purchases in a handleless bag placed inside a shopping cart.
Kroger responded quickly to each customer, noting that their complaints were escalated to a leadership team.
PAPER POLICY
Kroger customers on Reddit had mixed opinions about when the grocer eliminated handles from its paper bags.
A debate over the bags was sparked after a user noticed that grocery bags from their local Fred Meyer — a chain owned by Kroger — no longer had handles.
“For something like last year (maybe longer), ALL paper bags did NOT have handles. Is this similar to Kroger locations? they asked.
“How inept a management team must Kroger have to fuck with their customers like that?”
Kroger customers speculated about when the handles were removed.
