The shocked buyer (@floridagonecrazy) shared a TikTok video taken in the Publix meat section in early April.

He zoomed in on different meat packages to highlight the supermarket chain Southeastern’s absurd prices.

Publix priced its boneless New York steaks at $60.48 per pound, while a similar cut of beef typically sells for around $12 to $20 per pound.

One of the packages he showed cost a staggering $97.98 for two steaks that weighed 1.62 pounds combined.

The TikToker referred to some other packages of meat that weighed between a pound and a pound.

They were priced at $88.91, $81.04, and $73.97.

“Publix has lost its mind,” the text overlay read.

The Publix customer noted that New York strip steak packages typically cost between $20 and $30 each, meaning current packages were priced as high as $80.

“I don’t know why they cost more than a tomahawk steak!” he wrote in the caption, referring to a cut of meat known for its substantial size.

MEAT MISTAKE

Other shoppers were shocked by the ridiculous prices of the steaks, with many claiming they were probably mispriced.

“Publix is expensive, but this is crazy!” said one buyer.

“This can’t be right. My Publix isn’t like that. It’s Food Lion prices,” a second wrote.

The original user chimed in, saying that he exposed the absurd prices to the store manager, who agreed and removed them from the shelves.

“He said people bought some and he laughed, and I’m mad he didn’t film it,” the TikToker wrote.

Other shoppers claimed the store did this on purpose.

“It’s not a mistake. They were testing the market to see how far they could push it,” one user wrote.

Another shopper agreed, saying nothing in the store is marked incorrectly thanks to the Publix Promise, a store policy that offers an item for free if the scanned price exceeds the shelf price or advertised price.

“They are intentionally emptying bank accounts,” the customer said.

In related news, a Burger King customer’s coupon revealed that prices have increased by $6 on a popular meal in just two years.

Additionally, Costco members’ anger “hit them where it hurts” after the retailer raised prices.
