A COSTCO shopper criticized the store for not allowing her to pay for her items.

This customer was furious because the retailer didn’t inform her about a certain policy when she entered the store.

The buyer (@kindly kit) said he visited Costco with his mother, but they faced problems when paying, in a post X.

Costco does not allow customers to share their membership cards.

Therefore, a person not registered with the member ID cannot make a purchase at the retail warehouse.

This left shoppers furious, including family members who criticized the store for it.

“Hey @Costco if you’re going to change your policy and not let a party member pay because their name isn’t on the member card (my mom and I went in together, her name is on the member card and I pay ) so this needs to be known AT THE DOOR”, said the irritated buyer.

“Not after shopping for 1 hour at checkout.”

This customer was particularly angry because she added that she lived at home and said “it was all going to the same place.”

“It wasn’t like we split the batch, LOL.”

Another user X asked about the warehouse’s guest policy.

Costco has stated that members can bring children and up to two guests into the store.

Costco Membership Sharing Guidelines

The company’s website also states that only Costco members can purchase items.

This buyer added what she wished she had done to not have noticed the problem.

“The whole situation could have been avoided if I had given my card to my mother,” she said. he wrote.

“They don’t touch your pay, so they would never know.”

Costco Membership Sharing Guidelines

Costco has strict rules for subscription usage that shoppers must follow and has been cracking down on violators in recent years.

  • Core Member Usage: Only the primary cardholder can use this Costco membership card. It is not allowed to share it for purchases, as the photo on the card must correspond to the person using it.
  • Domestic Card: Each Prime Member can add one free Household Cardholder who lives at the same address. That person will receive their own membership card and can shop at Costco independently.
  • Guest Policy: Members can bring up to two guests per Costco visit. However, only the member can make purchases. Guests must be accompanied by a member.
  • Authorized cardholder: For an additional fee, you can add an authorized cardholder, such as a family member or friend, who does not reside at your address. They will receive their own card and will be able to make purchases independently.

BIG COST

This person was not the only consumer to complain about this policy, US Sun previously reported.

Another shopper said she was also banned from using her mother’s membership card to buy products at the store.

“The lady in front of me offered to use her card, [but] they didn’t leave me,” they wrote.

“I left that cart right there in line.”

CEO SPEAKS

Costco CEO Ron Vachris recently came out to defend one of its new in-store measures.

The retailer announced it would trial scanners at front doors to crack down on member sharing.

“They are significantly speeding up our registrations when we verify all scans and associations at the front door,” said the CEO.
