Adam L. Wingfield (@Adaml Wingfield) shared an image of long lines he experienced at the checkout area, in an X post.

This buyer said a registration change caused the wait.

“Sam’s club removed all of his records and went to self-checkout only…,” he wrote.

Wingfield also expressed his anger over a second wait he had to endure before leaving the retailer.

Membership stores like Sam’s Club and Costco have a receipt verification policy that shoppers agree to in the Terms and Conditions of their memberships.

This means customers must have their proof of purchase reviewed by an employee before leaving the store.

Wingfield shared his anger regarding this policy and complained about the additional time it took to leave the branch.

“So not only do you have to stand in a huge queue to check out…” he added.

“You also have to stand in another line to wait to leave…”

The shopper blamed technology for their experience and shared what they would prefer to have in the store.

“When you try to replace humans with technology without a proof of solution scale, this is what you get…” he said.

“This is crazy.”

Comments on this post X were split between people who agreed with Wingfield and buyers who suggested an alternative.

Some X users have recommended the Sam’s Clubs Scan And Go feature.

This would allow shoppers to use an app to scan items as they add them to their cart, pay in the app, and show the employee their digital receipt on checkout.

“The best thing ever is not waiting in line. Box or not,” commented user X.

Other users shared their dislike of self-checkouts.

“Where’s my 10% employee discount,” one person wrote.

SAM CHANGE

The retailer announced earlier this year that it would test new technology to reduce receipt check waits, The US Sun previously reported.

Sam’s Club introduced AI cameras that would scan people’s carts and their receipts.

Some shoppers expressed their skepticism about this technology and said they would go to rival stores instead.

“You don’t need to know what I’m carrying,” said one customer.

“The receipt check was security theater to begin with, but if it’s mandatory, I can always go to Costco or BJ’s,” they concluded.

US Sun has reached out to Sam’s Club for comment.
