In a fun nod to the current Olympic Games, Walmart shared an X publish posing a hypothetical question.

“If you could win a [gold medal] for a shopping event… what event would it be?”, the retailer asked its customers.

Walmart customers flooded the comments section with responses like cooking, buying Halloween decorations and back-to-school shopping.

One shopper took the post as an opportunity to criticize the retailer.

They called out Walmart for an unpleasant encounter with a lazy employee.

The incident occurred when the customer noticed a discrepancy in the price of an item and requested a correction.

Instead of resolving the issue at self-checkout, the employee directed the customer to a different register to avoid the task.

“I would prefer if you didn’t just put lazy people in charge of managing the self-checkout line,” the customer said.

“Pretty bad experience this week when they wanted me to go to the other register so they didn’t have to enter the price correction.”

WALMART CHALLENGES

Walmart has faced criticism online from other shoppers for its poor customer service.

‘What sense does that make,’ ask Walmart shoppers as store rolls out self-checkout limit – but only has two open tills

One customer ended up abandoning her cart full of $350 worth of groceries after being disrespected by management.

She explained how she is a Walmart+ member and uses Scan and Go, but her self-checkout registration got stuck when she tried to pay.

A Walmart employee directed her to a second and third kiosk where she was checking out when she noticed a customer had checked out their first register and their credit card had been charged for their purchases.

The buyer went to customer service to receive a refund of the charge.

What is Walmart Scan and Go?

Walmart’s Scan and Go is designed to save shoppers time

Walmart’s Scan and Go system was created to help customers scan items as they shop, pay and check out, without waiting in long checkout lines.

The retailer outlines the new system to be implemented in a few easy steps:

  • Customers first need to download the Walmart app on their phone with location access enabled.
  • On the Store Mode home page, buyers must click on the Scan and Go option.
  • Customers can scan each item and place them in their carts as they shop.
  • At the end, they will be asked to view their cart to ensure the quantity in the app matches the quantity in their cart.
  • Shoppers will press “Check Out” and head to a self-checkout kiosk.
  • They will be asked to scan the QR code provided at the cash register and confirm their payment method.
  • Once the transaction is complete, shoppers can leave the store without any worries.

She noted that after 40 minutes of service, customer service was able to partially refund her.

“The manager they called to recover the full amount added said it couldn’t be done and walked away while I was talking to her!” enraged the Walmart customer.

After two hours of shopping and a problematic checkout experience, the customer abandoned her $350 worth of groceries.

“To the sweet customer service lady who apologized for the poor treatment I received from management, you should be the manager! I wouldn’t have left all that food there,” she said.

Other Walmart shoppers also criticized the retail giant on social media.

A Walmart customer criticized the store for embarrassing her at checkout with a “childish” policy.

Another buyer was overcharged $40 – it took over 10 employees to fix it and they explained “the math to them 5x.”
