SHOPPERS can get up to $55 off with a great Costco deal.

The members-only wholesaler has resolved claims that its baby wipes aren’t actually flushable.

The claims involve Costco’s own brand, Kirkland.

The plaintiffs alleged that Kirkland wipes were not flushable and safe for sewer or septic systems.

Although the brand denies any wrongdoing, it settled – avoiding the costs of further litigation.

However, not everyone will qualify for a payment.

Those who file complaints must do so by August 9.

WHO QUALIFIES?

Anyone who purchased Kirkland Signature Disposable Wipes at Costco in New York State may qualify.

But you must have purchased the item between July 1, 2011 and May 31, 2017.

If you did this, you qualify for a payment.

If you’re still a Costco member, you won’t need to file a claim.

If you were previously a Costco member and purchased a qualifying product but have since canceled or let your Costco membership expire, you will need to file a cash claim.

GM and Chevrolet Owners Will Receive Big Payouts

You can receive $1.30 for each product – although all customers who receive payments will receive at least $7.50.

But a maximum amount of US$55.90 will be paid to each family.

If too many people file complaints, the fee may be reduced because the maximum amount Costco will pay is $2 million.

More information is available at settlement website.

What is a class action settlement?

Class action lawsuits offer groups of people, or “classes,” a way to come together in court.

These lawsuits are often filed by one or a few people who allege that a company or other entity has harmed a large group of people.

When a lawsuit becomes a class action, it extends to all “class members,” or people who may have similar claims to those who filed the lawsuit.

Companies often settle class actions – offering payment to class members who typically waive their right to pursue legal action by accepting money.

These payment agreements often include statements from the defendant denying wrongdoing. Companies tend to settle class actions to avoid the costs of further litigation.

Pollution, discrimination or false advertising are some examples of what can lead to a class action lawsuit at a company’s door.

MORE MONEY

This isn’t the first time debates over the meaning of “washable” have sparked class action lawsuits.

DUDE Wipes faced a similar settlement last year.

Class action lawsuits allow large groups of people to right alleged wrongs or recover damages.

Visa and Mastercard must pay $5.6 billion for alleged antitrust violations.

Company fees have put them in hot water.

Data breaches are a common source of class action settlements.

A recent settlement involving a “arson” settlement is expected to provide a substantial $94.5 million payout to Americans affected by the case.

In addition to this significant payment, there is also a separate opportunity for individuals to claim funds from a $2.25 million health data settlement.
