A SHOPPER purchased the same items at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods to determine which store offered better deals.
A Trader Joe’s shopper went viral this year after posting a receipt for a $445 purchase.
He explained that he had six children and that the cost was normal for the family.
This has led customers to question whether TJ’s is really as affordable as people make it out to be.
Uptincontent creator specializing in technology and finance, compared Trader Joe’s prices with those at Whole Foods, purchasing the same items in each store.
“Whole Foods’ nickname is Whole Paycheck, but since Amazon bought Whole Foods, it has been trying to shake off that reputation,” he said in a statement. video posted on Facebook.
“Whole Foods just dropped prices on 25% of their items. They are doing this to attract more buyers who are worried about inflation.”
He purchased the following items at Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods:
- A gallon of organic milk
- A bottle of Synergy Ginger Kombucha
- Blue Diamond Almond Milk
- An eight-pack of Spindrift lye
- Dr. Bronner Bar Soap
- A dozen organic eggs
- An RX bar
- A bar on the cliff
- A Turkey Chomps stick
The total at Trader Joe’s was $33.91 and $43.81 at Whole Foods.
That’s almost 30% more, meaning for every $100 spent at Trader Joe’s, customers spend $130 at Whole Foods.
Despite the savings, Uptin said Whole Foods still has some advantages over Trader Joe’s, like larger aisles and smaller crowds.
INFLATED INSECURITY
Following companies like Walmart and Kroger, Whole Foods announced its plan to help consumers fight inflation.
CEO Jason Buechal revealed that the company is expanding its generic brand, 365 by Whole Foods, to offer more affordable options.
“It seems like customers are gravitating toward where they think the best deal is right now,” Buechal said in an interview with Fortune.
“[We’re] ensuring that our customers can shop from any part of the store and that we can make it accessible.
“And no matter what your budget, you can create a great meal with the products we offer.”
