Pyle has worked as a home mechanic for more than a decade, where he answers people’s questions about cars online.

He said his unique work began when he signed up to use the website JustAnswer.com after accidentally finding it, according to CNBC.

Pyle explained that he was hired by Ford and received training as a transmission technician.

During his studies, he came across the site while searching for an answer for himself, and then signed up to answer some questions in 2006.

The mechanic said he made $500 in the first month and that sum continued to double each month.

Pyle quit his $75,000-a-year job in 2012 after his earnings from the site exceeded his salary.

He shared that he earned $170,500 in 2023, which equates to a whopping $14,200 per month.

The expert consultant said he answers people’s questions about gasoline and diesel engine problems from the comfort of his recliner.

Pyle added that he had to work eight to 10 hours a day and not take a day off, including Christmas Day and his birthday, to maintain his high income.

This is because he is paid by the response, not an hourly or daily wage.

I made $175 in one hour from my job, all it took was a visit to Craigslist

JustAnswer.com decides how much it will pay its experts by evaluating them weekly.

Despite this, Pyle said a big advantage is being able to set your own schedule and decide when you want to start and end your day.

He explained that this had a huge positive impact on his family life.

“I was a scoutmaster for eight years… I was a football coach,” Pyle said.

How does this side hustle work?

JustAnswer.com has allowed curious people the opportunity to ask questions to experts online to find a quick and easy solution to their problems.

Experts need to apply online with their identification documents and relevant licenses or certifications.

They can then start earning money once the background checks are completed.

Experts can choose the questions they answer.

They are then evaluated each week to determine how much they will receive per response.

These people are paid monthly.

There are no scheduled shifts, so specialists can choose their own hours and shift patterns.

“I could go out right now and play video games with my son or swim in the pool.”

Pyle explained what major purchases he was able to make through his new source of income.

The home mechanic purchased a 34-acre plot of land for $130,000 in Dickson County, Tennessee, as well as a trailer for his wife.

Pyle added that he also planned to build a second home for himself and his family and said he would reduce his hours after the project was completed.

“I have no plans to go back to a real job unless I’m the boss,” Pyle said.

“Between my work attire and the environment in which I work, [life] it is very good.”
