Thrift stores offer much more than clothes and antiques, as one gaming fan recently discovered.

Posting to a Reddit thread for PC gamersthey sent a photo of a GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card on the shelf at Goodwill.

The graphics card is used by PC gamers who modify or build their own consoles for an enhanced gaming experience.

The equipment needed for this hobby is often very expensive.

The graphics card would have cost the Redditor $655 at Walmart.com.

However, his economical discovery only cost $8.

What’s more, it was in excellent condition.

“Looks new, works great!” they wrote.

Others in the comments were very impressed with their Goodwill purchase.

‘Man, this is a monster for eight dollars, great find!”, praised one.

“How are you supposed to get so lucky with these thrift store finds?” asked another.

A third joked: “Life isn’t fair.”

FUN AND GAMES

While new, modern gaming gear can be found at Goodwill, don’t overlook retro games the next time you’re at the thrift store.

A gaming fan on TikTok recently shared his success after finding a WrestleMania GameCube game for just $2.99.

To his surprise, the game was actually worth $163 on eBay.

He sold the game himself, making a tidy profit of $160.

Finding Valuable Items at a Thrift Store

Everyone reads these stories of savers making big savings and even profits from their rare finds, but how do they know what to look for?

A shopping expert has revealed what you should look for when you’re at thrift stores to save money.

Jeanel Alvarado Head of Retail says kitchenware is an important thing to look out for, as retailers will use similar materials, colors and patterns, but thrift stores will have unique objects that can add personality to your kitchen.

Thrift stores are a gold mine for purchasing pieces for your home and you can even find new items with a generous discount applied.

“I would rather thrift kitchen and tableware items from a thrift store than a dollar store for value and function,” Alvarado explained to Yahoo.

“However, thrift stores often receive donated items from other businesses, so you may be able to find a better quality item that is still in its original packaging.”

The US Sun previously reported how a treasure hunter bought a Staub cast iron Dutch oven for $13 at a thrift store, only to discover it was worth much more.

However, finding hidden gems at Goodwill isn’t always easy.

This is because employees often sort donations and list the most valuable items online rather than placing them on shelves.

Here’s how a Goodwill shopper knew a $2 print was actually worth $7,000.

And check out the little detail on an $8 dress that meant it was actually valued at $4,000.
