I bought an old ad for $20 at a yard sale, but discovered it was worth $400 thanks to the icon pictured on the front

A LUCKY garage sale hunter made a tidy profit from a vintage advert he bought for just $20.

Turns out the poster, from 1939, was worth $400 thanks to a famous face.

Scott appeared on an episode of Pawn Stars when he decided to try and sell his vintage Red Rock Glue Ads.

He had bought the ad, made from tin, at a garage sale, but wanted to get rid of it.

“It was an older lady and she wasn’t sure if it was real, she thought maybe it was a reproduction, but it looks old to me,” Scott said.

He only paid $20 for it.

The ad featured Babe Ruth, one of the most famous baseball players of all time.

The Yankees star has endorsed many products, including the now-defunct brand of cola.

Fortunately for Scott, Babe Ruth memorabilia has a strong market.

And pawn shop owner Rick Harrison was convinced it was a real ad for Red Rock Cola’s 1939 Babe Ruth campaign.

The only downside was that it wasn’t particularly rare.

“A lot of them were done,” Rick said.

“Imagine how excited Red Rock Cola was when they got Babe Ruth to endorse their product. They’re just not going to do some things, they’re going to do a gazillion of them,” he said.

However, he managed to offer a considerable amount for the advertisement.

“I see rarities worth $400,” he told Scott.

Scott accepted Rick’s offer.

“This guy bought the poster at a yard sale for $20 and ended up doing really well,” the Pawn Stars host said.

Scott isn’t the only one who brought a valuable rarity to Rick’s shop after finding it at a garage sale.

A man brought a medal that he bought for just 75 cents.

Turns out it was a 19th century Russian medal worth $40,000.
