A coin and banknote collector has found a $100 bill with a rare serial number that is worth more than 50 times its face value.

Most people don’t look twice at the dollar bills they receive in change.

Those who take the time to inspect their beads may be lucky enough to find the items collectors seek.

Coin and coin collectors look for more than old bills. They are willing to pay good money for dollars with exclusive features.

Eric Miller (@thecoinchannel) specializes in rare coins and notes and recently discovered an important feature in a $100 bill that makes it very valuable.

On TikTok, he shared a video submitted by a viewer with a pristine 1990 $100 bill in a plastic envelope.

“I’m surprised almost every day by the things people find,” he said in the video.

Although the note was in good condition, the critical factor that increased the price was the serial number.

The number was four, which is called a solid serial number.

Miller said it’s a rare occurrence and having a $100 bill makes it even more valuable.

The note alone would be worth about $2,000, but if certified, it would increase to $5,520.

Miller suggested that the grade be certified and graded by the Professional Coin Grading Society.

The company offers sellers an easy way to submit their coins and bills for a small fee to be appraised and certified.

LARGE AMOUNTS

Solid serial numbers can occur on any banknote denomination.

In another video, Miller examined a bill called “the devil’s $20.”

The serial number was six, representing what some call “the number of the beast.”

Another $20 bill with the serial number of all five sold for $2,350 at auction, and an ungraded bill sold for $1,375.

“People think I’m crazy when I look at the numbers on every invoice I receive; one day I’ll be able to show them that I’m not,” one viewer commented on the video.

“These are collected by many people,” Miller replied.

Solid serial numbers appear on nearly one in every 11 million bills printed and are generally worth more than $500, according to The penny hoarder.

The star symbols on the notes also make them valuable, with one note selling for $30,000.

There is also a penny worth $26,000 that is missing a letter.
