Deadpool and Wolverine officially brand Deadpool Introduction to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But Deadpool isn’t the only one making his MCU debut. As the trailer reveals, the villain Cassandra Nova, played by The crownEmma Corrin, is being introduced into the ever-expanding universe.
Who is Cassandra Nova and how does she fit into the MCU?
Cassandra Nova will be one of the many obstacles in Deadpool and Wolverine’s path as they try to work together to save the universe in the new film, which will be released on July 26th. announced that they would reduce from three films to one a year, Deadpool is recruited by Paradox (played by Matthew MacFadyen), an agent of the Time Variance Alliance, for a mission that will change “the cinematic universe forever”, says Deadpool in the recently released trailer, and set the future of Avengers films.
In the trailer, we see a variant of Wolverine, wearing the classic blue and gold costume (the first time Jackman’s character has worn the costume in a live-action film), who has “disappointed his entire world.” Deadpool enlists Wolverine’s help to save his own world and ensure the safety of his new friends and family. The two appear to be headed to “Battleworld,” which, according to the comicsit is composed of the “remains of realities destroyed after the collapse of the Multiverse”.
As the trailer shows, the pair face obstacles, including a bald woman with telekinetic powers fighting Wolverine. This is Charles Xavier’s twin sister, Cassandra Nova. According to the Marvel comics, while they were together in the womb, Charles “recognized her evil presence and killed” Cassandra, resulting in her stillbirth. As the years passed, she formed a new body, intending to take revenge on Charles.
It’s unclear what Cassandra’s motives are Deadpool and Wolverine. The trailer gives us an idea of what’s to come. About halfway through, she appears and says, “Boys are so silly.” Time will tell what to expect from this new character, but she seems like one to watch.
