sAbrina Carpenter’s latest energetic single, “Espresso,” is a favorite summer song. The infectious song, which reached number one on Spotify’s global charts on Tuesday, was released on April 12 and became wildly popular within two weeks.

“Espresso” and the song’s music video directed by Dave Meyers were released the day before Carpenter performed at Coachella, to fanfare. The video gained over 14 million views on YouTube and “Espresso” reached #7 on the Billboard Hot 100 (only to be dethroned by Taylor Swift) and is #5 on Spotify’s Viral 50 USA chart.

The upbeat song, about being the object of a lover’s desire and getting a partner so excited that it wakes them up – like an espresso – shows Carpenter’s love of hidden meanings and innuendo. Check out lines like “I know I Mountain Dew it for ya” and “My honeybee, come and get this pollen,” an unassuming lyric that could be interpreted as a reference to her current boyfriend, actor Barry Keoghan, who was seen supporting her. in Coachella.

The addictive lyrics also made the song a viral meme, with lines like “That’s my espresso” and “I’m working late, because I’m a singer.” TikTok creator @Lifeby_tatiana uploaded a comical video about being unable to stop saying the phrase. “My name is Tatiana, and I’m addicted to saying, ‘I’m working late because I’m a singer,’” she said, “This addiction has gotten really out of control since Coachella 2024, when Sabrina. I sang your song ‘Espresso’ for the first time and now I can’t stop saying ‘I’m working late because I’m a singer’”.

Carpenter commented on the video saying that she also relates because, you guessed it, she works late because she’s a singer.

Earwom has infiltrated brains everywhere with no signs of leaving.
