Brisbane, Australia — The Australian Olympic Committee has selected a 41-member swimming team to represent Australia in the Olympic pool. Paris Olympicsincluding Cameron McEvoy and Bronte Campbell, who will compete in their fourth games.

The team announced on Saturday at the conclusion of the Olympic trials in Brisbane also features three athletes representing Australia in their third Olympics, 13 returning for their second games and 23 making their Olympic debut.

The team includes Ariarne Titmus, who has established a world record in the 200-meter freestyle on Wednesday at the Olympic Trials.

But Cate Campbell’s Olympic career is over. The four-time gold medalist failed in her bid to become the first Australian to swim in five Olympics.

“I can get out of the pool with my head held high,” Campbell said. “I came back to try something no one had done before.”

Campbell, 32, finished seventh in the women’s 50m freestyle on Saturday night in Brisbane. Only the top two finishers – Shayna Jack and Meg Harris – will compete in the event at the Paris Games from July 26th.

Campbell, after missing qualification for the 100-meter freestyle final by a hundredth of a second on Friday, ended her Olympic career with four gold, one silver and three bronze medals.

International pop star Cody Simpson says he will return to the entertainment industry after failing to make the Australian national team. Simpson, 27, who put his music career on hold to return to the pool, finished fifth in the 100m butterfly final on Saturday.

“It’s bittersweet,” said singer and guitarist Simpson. “But I did what I could – and that’s all you can do.”

Simpson’s mother, Angie, and father, Brad, swam for Australia at the 1987 Pan-Pacific Games and 1994 Commonwealth Games, respectively.

Simpson swam at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England, and won the gold medal as a heat swimmer on the winning Australian 400 meter freestyle relay team.
