Andress’s performance quickly circulated on social media. Sports Illustrated writer Alex Carr posted on X, formerly Twitter, “I’m sorry, I’m sure Ingrid Andress is a wonderful person, but that was one of the worst national anthems I think I’ve ever heard in my entire life.”

Vulture blogger Bethy Squires joked that Andress sang “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “in cursive,” a reference to a popular Internet neologism that refers to pop singers stretching out their vowels and accentuating their vocal sounds.

Chris Wright, executive editor of Saturday Down South, was a little more delicate: “I like Ingrid Andress’ music and I’ve seen her in concert,” he wrote in X. “After hearing that National Anthem, I gained a new respect for its producers and sound team. Wow.”

A representative for Andress did not immediately respond to The Associated Press’ request for comment.
