NEW YORK — Thousands of workers at Disney’s California theme parks and resorts voted Friday to authorize a possible strike as contract negotiations dragged on.

The strike authorization was approved by an overwhelming margin, nearly 99% of members voting in accordance with a union declaration. The election was conducted by a coalition of four unions representing 14,000 Disney attraction operators, clerks, janitors, candy makers, ticket takers, parking attendants and other employees.

Union leaders will now have the option of calling a strike if they are unable to negotiate a new contract with Disney. Leaders from both sides return to the negotiating table starting Monday.

Union leaders have been talking to Disney about pay raises, safety measures, attendance policies and other benefits since April.
