SAN DIEGO – SAN DIEGO (AP) – “Dead Pool & Wolverine” has arrived – and Comic-Con, with its hordes of Marvel fans, is ready to celebrate the only superhero movie of the summer.

O broad convention celebrating all things pop culture kicked off on Wednesday, and a panel celebrating the release of “Deadpool & Wolverine”, is the main attraction this Thursday. On the opening night of the convention, many fans wore clothes or costumes of the film’s characters.

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, who play the titular superheroes, joined director Shawn Levy in the San Diego Convention Center’s famous Hall H on Thursday, along with Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige. To prevent fans from queuing up all day to get a seat, the organizers created a lottery system for a chance to win tickets. The venue has a capacity for around 6,000 people, and everyone who entered was treated to a screening of “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

“Dead Pool & Wolverine” marks the debut of Reynolds and Jackman’s characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Disney and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are the target of several jokes throughout the trailer. The characters of Deadpool and Wolverine have existed in films previously under the 21st Century Fox banner.

The release comes at a time of growing talk of a “general superhero fatigue,” with audiences showing less enthusiasm for superhero films both inside and outside the MCU. Part of this fatigue comes from the feeling that, to understand a superhero film today, it requires in-depth research into the lore of the characters and the comics, with a lot of viewing and mandatory reading.

Levy said in an April interview with the Associated Press that he wanted to make sure his film didn’t require that intense level of preparation.

“I was a good student at school. I will do my homework as an adult. But I definitely don’t plan on doing homework when I go to the movies,” Levy said.

“I made this film with certainly a healthy respect and gratitude for the rabid fan base that has maximum fluency in the mythology and lore of these characters and this world. But I didn’t want to assume that. This film was made for entertainment, without the obligation to come prepared with prior research.”

Although Marvel is eager for a successful follow-up poor box office performance of “The Wonders” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” in 2023, “Deadpool & Wolverine” is getting ready to premiere on $160 million range. That would displace “Inside Out 2” as the biggest debut of the year – and nullify any discussion about superhero fatigue.

With generally positive reviewsawakening enthusiasm in Comic-Con and an endorsement from Taylor Swift where she called the film a “gateway to joy,” Marvel’s latest film is expected to be a box office hit.
