KATY Perry is “taking time” to figure out her touring plans for the next 18 months following her failed comeback.

Katy, 39, refuses to take her poor single performance “lying down”, insisting to her advisers that “there is more to come” after her initial attempt to return to pop stardom failed.

Katy Perry was reportedly “enthusiastic” about bouncing back from a string of failed singles with her latest single Woman’s World, a source exclusively tells The US Sun.

Instead, Katy faced a wave of fan backlash almost immediately after the songs — and accompanying music video — were released.

The internet didn’t know what to think of the single, with some social media users calling it “the worst thing” they’ve ever heard, while others labeled its video as “a parody of feminism gone wrong.”

Some fans, including actress Abigail Breslin, also criticized Katy for working with disgraced music producer Dr. Luke, who was accused of sexual misconduct by his former recording artist, pop icon Kesha.

After years of allegations, lawsuits, and countersuits, Dr. Luke and Kesha released a joint statement on June 22, 2023, announcing that they had reached a settlement before the case went to trial.

Woman’s World was a huge flop for the California Gurls singer, peaking at just 63rd on the US Billboard Hot 100 – one of the lowest openings for a lead single in Katy’s entire decades-long career.

“Of course, seeing Woman’s World fail like this feels like a guess, but people shouldn’t underestimate Katy,” the source shared.

“She is a fighter and has overcome all odds in her career to become a huge star,” they added.

A CAVING IN BLOW

The source, who worked with Katy’s team in Las Vegas, noted that the Hot N Cold star refuses to view this setback as “insurmountable.”

However, she’s also eager to make sure she doesn’t suffer “J-Lo-type drama where she’s stuck on tour” that fans just don’t want to go to.

In May, Jennifer Lopez canceled her This Is Me tour to spend time with her family, although rumors circulated that it was also likely due to low ticket sales.

“Katy was hoping to tour the US and then travel the world for what she hoped would be a huge celebration,” the source revealed.

“But now everyone is taking a few weeks to look into this plan live,” they continued, adding, “Katy is determined to get out in front of America and fans around the world to promote her album.”

The source also said that a tour “will happen” regardless of the success of her next single, citing the singer’s extensive catalog of hits.

Katy Perry’s biggest hits

Katy Perry has released six studio albums, with her seventh, titled 143, set to debut on September 20, 2024.

The singer has not had as much mainstream success in recent years as she did at the beginning of her career.

However, even the most daring critic cannot highlight its dominance in the charts of the 2000s and 2010s.

Some of Katy’s most popular tracks include:

  • I Kissed a Girl (2008)
  • Hot and Cold (2008)
  • Waking Up in Vegas (2009)
  • California Girls (2010)
  • Teenage Dream (2010)
  • Fireworks (2010)
  • ET (2011)
  • Last Friday Night (TGIF) (2011)
  • The One Who Got Away (2011)
  • Part of Me (2012)
  • Peacock (2012)
  • Wide Awake (2012)
  • Roar (2013)
  • Dark Horse (2013)
  • Unconditionally (2013)
  • Birthday (2014)
  • Ascension (2016)
  • Chained to the Rhythm (2017)
  • Bon Appétit (2017)
  • Swish Swish (featuring Nicki Minaj) (2017)
  • Daisies (2020)
  • Smile (2020)
  • Woman’s World (2024)

“The live shows will take place, now it’s a matter of ensuring it performs in strong markets and deciding how it will face international challenges. [markets]”, added the source.

Katy’s advisors are reportedly encouraging her to market the tour as a “celebration of her biggest hits on the road”, similar to her former nemesis Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

Katy, who turns 40 later this year, “wants to go out on the road to show her fans [that] not only does she still have it live, but her catalog of hits is immense.

Katy has sold more than 135 million singles and 48 million album units worldwide, with 121 million digital singles and 19 million albums in the US alone.

She currently holds the record for best-selling singles in the US, with six of her singles selling over five million units, including:

  • Hot and cold
  • California Girls
  • Fireworks
  • ET
  • Roar
  • dark horse

Despite her determination to succeed against all odds, Katy began “debating” the “extension of her tour plans,” according to the source.

She also plans to return to a city that helped solidify her as one of the biggest stars in the world: Las Vegas.

WAKE UP IN VEGAS

“It wasn’t long ago that his Play residency in Las Vegas was seen by critics as the most entertaining superstar show ever on the Strip,” the source told The US Sun.

The singer’s concert residency, Play, began at Resorts World Theater on December 29, 2021.

“Resorts World would welcome her back in a heartbeat for a new residence and other venues would throw their hat in the ring for her signature,” the source shared.

Katy played 80 shows during her residency, grossing nearly $50 million after her final performance on November 4, 2023.

The star’s final Las Vegas show “was seen as an iconic moment in modern times,” the source said.

Celebrities such as Céline Dion, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “danced the night away”, alongside Katy’s fiance, Orlando Bloom, and the duo’s daughter, Daisy Dove.

Katy’s Play residency is currently the 8th highest-grossing all-female residency in Las Vegas history.

“But if this agreement moves forward [forward] so the earliest possible would probably be the end of next year,” the source added.

Katy, despite keeping busy promoting her latest album, is also on board to return to the Las Vegas Strip.

“She’s trying hard to get that magic back,” the source added.

FALLEN IDOL

In February, Katy shocked her fans by revealing that she would be leaving American Idol after the 22nd season.

Along with Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, Katy was a judge on the show for seven seasons, joining the show before its season 16 revival.

On July 31, country superstar and former American Idol winner Carrie Underwood was revealed as Katy’s replacement.

When asked if leaving American Idol was a mistake for Katy, the source said it wasn’t in her “nature” to stay put for too long.

“Look, she could have spent another year taking home $30 million in a family environment,” the source said.

“But that is not the nature of a woman,” they continued.

“Above all, she remains an artist who wants to be creative and relevant to her audience.”

In September, Katy is scheduled to perform at a multi-day music festival held in Rio de Janeiro’s Cidade do Rock.

She will also be busy promoting her album ahead of its late September release.

“‘There’s a lot more to come’ is what we’re told,” the source added.

CRY ABOUT IT LATER

Katy is still moving full steam ahead with her seventh studio album, 143.

The album’s second single, titled Lifetimes, officially debuted on August 8.

She has previously teased the single, posting clips on her social media channels with snippets of the dance track playing in the background.

Katy “is proud of what [she has] written and still has enormous appeal as an artist”, emphasized the source.

Still, it’s unclear how fans will react to the track and whether the song’s performance will impact her upcoming album release.

Despite dominating the music scene in the late 2000s and early 2010s with hits like I Kissed a Girl, Teenage Dream and Roar, Katy has since fallen out of the mainstream.

His latest album, Smile, released on May 15, 2020, was met with moderate success and mixed reviews from critics and fans.

The album’s first single, Daisies, reached number 40 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

143 is currently slated for a summer wrap with a September 20th release date.
