Katy Perry’s pop comeback appears to have hit another hurdle.

WeOwnTheCity, the production company behind the music video for Perry’s latest single, “Lifetimes,” is under investigation in Spain for allegedly filming without proper authorization, according to an Aug. 13 report. Several media outlets reported that part of the video was filmed in the dunes of the islet of S’Espalmador, an ecological area home to unique plants and animals within the Ses Salines Natural Park, located between the islands of Ibiza and Formentera. However, the investigation focuses on the alleged lack of authorization to film in the area.

“The filming took place without authorization,” the ministry told Yahoo Entertainment in a statement, clarifying: “In any case, there is no environmental crime.”

Esteban Zuluaga, credited as the video’s producer, told Yahoo Entertainment that local Ibiza production company Pedalier Films applied for the appropriate filming license, but “due to administrative delays, the license was still in progress at the time filming occurred.” place.”

It is not yet clear whether the production company or Perry will face penalties or fines for filming without permission.

The ‘Lifetimes’ video

Perry released the music video for “Lifetimes” on August 8. It is the second single, after “Woman’s World”, from her upcoming album, 143which will be released on September 20th. She stated that the song is dedicated to daughterDaisy, whom he shares with Orlando Bloom, and which is “eternal love”.

Directed by Stillz and produced by WeOwnTheCity, the video has received over 2.6 million views on YouTube. On the day of her debut, Perry took to Instagram to share images that appear to be scenes from filming, captioning the post, “Sending love from Ibiza.”

Neither Stillz, WeOwnTheCity nor the singer’s representatives responded to Yahoo Entertainment’s requests for comment.

What happens in the video?

The music video shows Perry diving in the beauty of the beaches of Formentera, sailing on a boat, diving in the crystal clear waters and going to the clubs of Ibiza. At the beginning of video (circa:47), a rope is seen cordoning off a portion of the beach, although its exact purpose is unclear.

A protected region

S’Espalmador is an uninhabited island approximately 3 kilometers long north of Formentera. It has been part of the Ses Salines de Ibiza and Formentera natural park since 1980 and is home to 220 species of migratory birds, according to Ibiza tourism website. It is home to Posidonia, a seagrass endemic to the Mediterranean basin that has been listed as a World Heritage since 1999.

All filming in the area “requires express authorization from the competent ministry of the environment”, the Ministry stated in its press release. Authorization is granted by the competent authorities, “including those relating to property rights”, he added.

The investigation into the production of Perry’s video is ongoing, the ministry told Yahoo Entertainment, to determine possible violations.
