EVA Mendes admitted she was a foul-mouthed smoker in her 20s as she defended having children in her 40s with Ryan Gosling.
Eva, 50, and the Barbie star began dating shortly after the pair filmed The Place Beyond the Pines in 2011.
The 2 Fast 2 Furious star, who shares two children with Ryan, 43, revealed: “I couldn’t have raised children at any other time in my life except now,” in an interview with People.
She told the outlet: “When I was 40, it was a big deal to people when I was pregnant, and it wasn’t for me. And then I was 42 and pregnant with my second child and people said, ‘Oh my God, you’re going to be so tired. This is why people have children in their 20s. I thought, that’s the stupidest, most regrettable thing I’ve ever heard.”
Eva and Ryan welcomed their first daughter, nine-year-old Esmeralda Amanda, in 2014, and their second, eight-year-old Amada Lee, in 2016.
“It takes more patience. At 20, I shouldn’t have even been around a child. I was just foul-mouthed and smoking. I couldn’t have raised children at any other time in my life, but now, for sure,” The Other Guys revealed.
When asked about her decision to step away from acting to raise her and Ryan’s children, Eva admitted: “It was the easiest decision I’ve ever made.
“I was older and I knew my kids would be little one day, and everything I do or don’t do now will affect them for the rest of their lives.”
Eva confessed that she “didn’t feel it as pressure” but rather “felt it as clarity” to help her make the choice.
“Your career comes and goes, but kids, yeah, that was easy for me,” she stated before explaining, “They’re just formative years.
“Everything matters when you have two little people watching you all day. It’s scary, but it’s good because it makes me try to be a better person every day,” she told People.
HOUSE BODY
Years ago, Eva reinforced this sentiment when she slammed a fan who told her to “go out more,” while she responded that she “would rather be at home” with her family.
The Training Day actress shared a black and white photo of herself running on a beach in Instagram with the caption: “I went for a run on the beach this morning.
“No, I didn’t. This photo was taken at least 15 years ago.”
“I haven’t seen the beach this year. I didn’t run this year,” she concluded.
In the comments section, one fan said, “You need to tell Ryan to hang out more.”
The actress replied: “No, thank you, I’m fine. I’d rather be at home with my man than anywhere else in the world.”
PRIVATE LIFE
The model opened up and revealed why she avoids sharing photos of her family on social media by writing on Instagram: “I have always had a clear boundary when it comes to my man and my children.
“I will talk about them of course, with limits, but I will not post photos of our daily lives.”
She continued: “And because my children are still so young and don’t understand what it really means to post their images, I don’t have their consent.
“And I will not post their image until they are old enough to give me consent.”
She also added, “As far as Ryan and I are concerned, it works for us this way, staying private.”
Although the La La Land actor prefers to keep his relationship out of the public eye, he praised Eva in 2017 after winning a Golden Globe.
During his acceptance speech, he stated, “I’d like to try to properly thank one person and say that while I was singing and dancing and playing the piano and having one of the best experiences I’ve ever had in a movie, my lady was raising our pregnant daughter. of our second son, and trying to help his brother fight cancer.”
Ryan added: “If she hadn’t taken on all of this so I could have this experience, there would definitely be someone else here besides me today.
“So, darling, thank you. To my daughters Amada and Esmeralda, I love you.”
