BRITNEY Spears potentially has a long road ahead of her to fully recover after her ankle injury.

US Sun can exclusively reveal that the pop star – who injured her ankle earlier this week during a fierce fight with her boyfriend, Paul Soliz – appears to have a “lateral ankle sprain”, according to a specialist podiatrist unconnected to star.

Following the incident, Britney, 42, shared graphic videos of her swollen ankle on Instagram to “show proof” of her injury.

Looking at the videos online, a podiatrist at Harley Medical Foot and Nail Clinic in London, UK, spoke to The US Sun about the possible extent of the damage.

“It appears that Britney Spears may have suffered a lateral ankle sprain,” the expert suspected.

“She indicated in the report that she landed on her feet in a strange or funny way. It is common for the foot to invert when there is a lateral ankle sprain.

“It goes up and in, and it’s very consistent,” they continued, before noting that Britney’s injury is “very common,” especially considering the way it happened.

“You can land on it in a very funny way, jumping or tripping. You usually feel swelling and pain on the outside or side of your foot.

“There is also usually pain on movement when you move your foot. It hurts a lot when you have a serious ankle sprain”, explained the podiatrist.

A LONG RECOVERY?

Despite being a common occurrence, the specialist warned that Britney could have more problems if the wound does not heal properly.

“The problem is that if a lateral ankle sprain does not heal properly, it creates a type of instability in the foot. If you have an ankle injury, you could get a high-low ankle sprain,” they continued.

“You can also get peroneal tendinitis or an injury to the peroneal tendon or injure the deltoid ligaments, which are the area around the front of the ankle. You can also fracture the bones around the ankle area,” the podiatrist added.

They further explained that there are three degrees of ankle injury, and Britney’s does not appear to be the least serious.

“It’s really hard to say without seeing how Britney is walking or [having] more information about how badly [it hurts], but it is definitely not grade one (the least severe). It is likely to be grade two,” meaning there is “some destruction of the ligaments with some swelling and moderate pain.”

The specialist then said that additional exams, including MRI and other tests, would be needed to determine the severity of Britney’s injury.

They said, for now, “the main thing is to rest, put ice, put anti-inflammatories [medicine] over it and elevate your foot to reduce swelling.”

Britney Spears Conservatorship Timeline

In September 2021, by Britney case was returned to a Los Angeles court where Judge Brenda Penny made a series of bombshell decisions, following her father’s decision to end the conservatorship the previous month.

She decided to free Jamie from her daughter’s guardianship, however, this did not mean the complete end of the guardianship.

Speaking in court, Judge Brenda Penny said: “Based on what I have read in the record and I have read everything. I believe that Jamie Spears’ suspension is in Britney Spears’ best interest.

“The current situation is unattainable. The court finds that the toxic environment Jamie Spears created needs to be removed today.”

After the judge’s ruling, a temporary conservator was placed in Jamie’s place for about a month.

In early November 2021, Jamie returned to court presenting new legal documents that show he has stopped fighting.

Jamie had previously demanded $2 million in exchange for his resignation, but documents at the time showed he was not seeking any additional compensation.

On November 12, Judge Penny ruled in the pop star’s favor, removing Jamie as conservator without requiring any additional mental examination of Britney.

The podiatrist also suggested that the Stronger singer take ibuprofen and painkillers to lessen the discomfort, and she may need to lay low while she recovers.

However, they said the real test would be later, as the mother-of-two could need other, more extensive treatments.

“If there is severe damage, Britney may need bone reconstruction or tendon transfer.

The specialist added: “Grade two, I hope, with rest, icing, compression, elevation, taking painkillers, ibuprofen and then [undergoing] rehabilitation, Britney’s ankle and foot will return to normal and with full function.

“If the ankle sprain is severe, with ligament dislocation, broken bones and things like that, more time will be needed for rehabilitation,” they concluded.

‘IT IS SO BAD’

Britney revealed how her injury happened in the comments of her Instagram post, where she shared the videos.

“I actually sprained my ankle last night like an idiot just to show proof. Don’t look at my feet, I need a manicure,” wrote the artist.

“It is so bad. The idiot here tried to jump into the Chateau room and I fell, I was embarrassed and that was it.

“The paramedics knocked on my door illegally of course, caused a huge scene which was so unnecessary and all I needed was ice.

“It’s actually really bad, but shit happens.”

Britney also praised her lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, for “helping her get over” the injury while blaming her mother, Lynn, who she claimed called her immediately after the incident.

THE INCIDENT

TMZ previously reported that Britney got into a fight with her boyfriend and that a woman matching the star’s description was allegedly harassing and threatening hotel staff and guests.

The incident happened on Wednesday night at the Chateau Marmont Hotel in Los Angeles, California.

Fans have expressed their concern for Britney – who was released from her 13-year conservatorship in 2021 – and her mental health on social media.

“Have someone look at that injured ankle, please!” one person pleaded on X, formerly Twitter.

“It’s horrible that Britney needs extensive mental health treatment, probably inpatient, but she feels so betrayed and understandably terrified of mental health services that she doesn’t seek help.

“It has disaster written all over it; It’s so scary,” another person wrote in an online thread.

A third said: “I really feel for her and want her to be happy. Her family and fame have clearly caused her deep trauma, but she is also clearly not mentally stable.”
