While promoting his newest film, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, Anya Taylor-Joy has channeled his alter ego on screen with looks worthy of a warrior.
In the George Miller-directed prequel, Taylor-Joy plays the titular Imperator Furiosa, a resilient warrior who is kidnapped by warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth) and later embarks on a revenge-filled journey home.
The 28-year-old actress has been traveling the world to promote the post-apocalyptic film, which hits theaters May 24 – and even missed the annual Met Gala as a result. Luckily for us, Taylor-Joy has been hitting the sartorial mark every Angry-inspired look.
Despite identifying as a tomboy when she was younger, Taylor-Joy has since come to love the drama of dressing up for big events.
“I never paid attention to clothes until I realized it was a form of performance art for me – specifically, on the red carpet. I love drama. I love theatricality. I love leaning into a theme,” she said W Magazine in 2023.
Opting for metals with floral details, terracotta tones and sculptural silhouettes, the Dune: Part Two the actress effectively put a high-tension twist on “method dressing” — which it is, according to Vogue“a chance to extend the cinematic universe of a project to the red carpet before the film even premieres.”
Appearance at Las Vegas CinemaCon
Taylor-Joy started the Furious press tour on April 9 in a chic black biker dress. Designed by Ludovic de Saint Sernin, the leather mini featured eyelet detailing and criss-cross straps at the front of the bodice. Taylor-Joy kept her finishing touches simple with black pumps and a loose bun.
Photo conference in Sydney
On May 1, Taylor-Joy opted for a goddess and grunge aesthetic for a photo shoot in Australia. The actress wore a burnt orange one-shoulder dress from Rick Owens’ spring 2024 ready-to-wear collection. With a softer, delicately draped fabric on the bodice and stiffer, rumpled leather on the high-waisted skirt, this look fearlessly played with contrasting aesthetics.
Taylor-Joy opted for smaller jewelry, a simple, elegant updo and sultry smoky eyes. (Her diamond chain earrings and gold cuff, along with the rest of her press tour jewelry, are courtesy of Tiffany & Co. She has been a brand ambassador for the luxury retailer since 2021.)
Premiere in Sydney
O Queen’s Gambit the actress set the red carpet on fire during the film’s Australian premiere on May 2. Taylor-Joy appeared in a sheer gold dress with large three-dimensional arrows coming out of it. Both the wire dress and her equally stunning headpiece are from Paco Rabanne’s spring/summer 1996 collection.
Photo conference in Mexico City
Taylor-Joy took post-apocalyptic glamor to a whole new level in her May 6 photoshoot. Reminiscent of armor, the metal minidress was custom-made by Balmain and featured cascading roses along the shoulders and along the bodice. She completed the brutalism-inspired look with red lips and translucent Aquazzura heels.
The actress took to Instagram to share the actual process of putting on the dress.
Mexico City press conference
Later that night, she donned a black and white motorcycle-inspired look from Robert Wun’s spring 2023 collection. Taylor-Joy wore a cropped white leather jacket with exaggerated shoulder pads over a black bandeau top. She opted for a white leather mini skirt paired with a bold black zipper.
Screening in Los Angeles
On May 8, Taylor-Joy wore a daring leather minidress. She walked down Hollywood Boulevard in the form-fitting black dress – with a front zipper and chest pocket – from Acne Studios’ fall 2024 collection. For the finishing touches, the actress opted for a slicked back ponytail, a bold red lip, black stilettos and a chunky silver cuff.
