SYDNEY Sweeny appears to be getting ready to don Jane Fonda’s old Barbarella spacesuit.

But fans are concerned that Euphoria’s outburst risks being labeled in too specific a way.

As her star continues to rise, Sydney has reportedly signed on to star in a big-screen remake of Barbarella.

Director Edgar Wright, cult hero of films like Baby Driver, is in talks to direct, according to Deadline.

The original Barbarella saw Jane Fonda as the title character – a future astronaut and space traveler sent to find a dangerous scientist who has created a weapon that could destroy humanity.

The film, released in 1968, was not a success but has since become a cult classic, thanks in part to its mature themes, nudity and frequent sensuality.

Sydney is no stranger to stripping naked in her shows and movies, including her role in HBO’s Euphoria and films like The Voyeurs and Everyone But You.

While many are excited about the possibility of her taking on the titular role, others are concerned about overexposure.

“I’m starting to notice a pattern when it comes to her roles,” one person posted in X, formerly Twitter, starting a discussion. “I don’t know if it’s her team, her personal decision or just Hollywood. But it’s getting weird.”

“I noticed,” one person responded. “She’s a great actress, but I feel like she needs a new agent.”

“It seems like she is being taken advantage of,” argued another.

THE NAKED TRUTH

However, none of this seems to matter to Sydney, who knows exactly what she’s signing up for.

“Barbarella is a really fun character to explore. She embraces her femininity and sexuality, and I love that,” the 26-year-old told the Happy Sad Confused podcast. “She uses sex as a weapon. and I think it’s a really interesting way to enter the world of science fiction.”

Sydney, who is also an executive producer on the film, revealed that she was a fan of the original.

“I watched the original and thought, ‘This is incredibly insane and beyond iconic,’” she said. “I thought, ‘It would be interesting to do that in today’s world.'”

Sydney said she would even be open to discussing having 86-year-old Fonda back to participate in the reboot.

She embraces her femininity and sexuality, and I love it.

“It depends on whether she wants to get involved,” he clarified. “I’m always willing to talk to as many people as possible.”

EUPHORIC PREMIERE

The original Barbarella proved controversial. Although she turned Jane Fonda into an international sex symbol, she later said that she had mixed feelings about the film as she suffered from bulimia at the time of filming and got drunk before filming the nude scene.

But Sydney isn’t deterred by the controversy – or the on-screen striptease – and will begin work on Barbarella after finishing filming the third series of Euphoria for HBO.

Speaking about her first experience getting naked in the drama, Sydney told the Awards Chatter podcast: “I randomly brought a lot of family members to the premiere, which was the pilot.

“I was very excited because it was the big Hollywood premiere and this is what I dreamed of for so long.

“I wanted to share this experience with my family and I didn’t think about the actual experience.

“I love my grandmother very much, but when we finished, she leaned over – she was sitting two or three away from me – and said, ‘You have the best boobs in Hollywood.'”

“I said, ‘Thank you very much,’ because I was slumping in my chair the whole time thinking, What did I do?’ But she made me feel better.”
