JEFF Daniels has revealed he was worried a scene in Dumb and Dumber could lead to the end of his career.

The actor, who starred in the comedy alongside Jim Carrey, was warned by his agents not to take on the role.

Jeff is a respected actor, known for his roles in dramatic films like The Martian and television shows like The News Room.

That’s why the 69-year-old admitted that took a big risk when he signed on to play Harry in the 1994 comedy.

“I’ve had agents, who weren’t wrong, tell me, ‘You’re a serious actor. This isn’t the direction you need to go. Let’s stop this and get you out of this movie,'” Jeff recently told USA Today. “But I wanted to shake it up with a comedy. And I wanted to work with Jim Carrey.”

Jeff simply didn’t know how much he would be shaking – especially in the famous bathroom scene where Harry has a bad reaction after drinking tea laced with laxatives.

“It’s one thing to read the bathroom scene, but then the day comes and we’re actually going to do the bathroom scene,” he recalled. “I told Jim, ‘This is the beginning or the end of my career.’ “

Fortunately, Jim, who already had a string of bizarre comedies under his belt, gave Jeff a pep talk about poop.

“Jim, who is fearless, told me, ‘It’s going to be great. You just have to go all the way.’ “

And he did.

“It was a few hours of porcelain gymnastics,” Jeff recalled. “And that close-up when they appear on my red face. I’d been doing that for so long I almost passed out.”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Dumb and Dumber is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Just like another Jeff Daniels classic, which may one day be revived.

The most annoying sound in the world

This time, Jeff was Keanu Reeves’ partner in the blockbuster Speed.

The action thriller, directed by Jan de Bont, made a star out of Sandra Bullock.

The film is about a former bomb squad officer and co-worker of Keanu and Jeff who rigs a Los Angeles public transit bus with a bomb ready to explode if it slows below 50 mph.

Speed ended up being the fifth highest-grossing film of the year, grossing over $350 million.

This is the beginning of my career or the end of it.”

A sequel, Speed 2: Cruise Control, was not as well received and this time the bomb was at the box office.

NEED MORE SPEED?

Now, with the 30th anniversary, movie stars Keanu and Sandra say they would be interested in a Speed 3.

The duo joined the 50MPH Podcast on May 6 and discussed the possibility of a sequel.

Although Keanu wasn’t in Speed 2 with Sandra, he would love to reunite for a third film.

“I mean, you know — we would kill it,” he said on the podcast.

Sandra agreed with her co-star, with whom she also starred in The Lake House in 2006.

“There is no formula. It just exists,” she said.

“Before we die, before we leave this planet, I think Keanu and I need to do something on camera. Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers? Maybe. Are we on little scooters at Disneyland?”

Keanu added: “It feels like there’s a siren call, like something hasn’t been done. I would love to work with you again before our eyes close.”
