Marlon, 51, is releasing a new comedy special, Good Grief, which will be released on Amazon Prime Video on June 4.

In the special, he talks about his personal life and real-life experiences.

And one of those experiences was when Marlon discovered that his son, Kai, was transgender.

“I’m very vulnerable these days on stage,” he said People.

“I don’t know why it took me so long to do standup. Now I can’t stop.”

“This is my therapy. Life happens and I ask, ‘What’s so funny about that?’ I’m literally trying to rescue myself,” said Marlon.

The actor revealed he was “thrown into some soul searching” when his eldest son revealed they were transgender.

Marlon went through his own transition “from defiance to acceptance.”

He revealed that it took him a week to accept his son’s new gender.

“And that week I grew more than I ever had in my life. You understand the purpose of children and the beauty of unconditional love”, revealed Marlon.

“At the end of the day, in my heart, the only thing that matters to me is that my son is happy.”

‘GIFT LESSONS’

Marlon said he spoke about his experience in the new special to “give not just laughs, but some lessons.”

And his son agreed with him talking about it.

“I have a contract with my kids: ‘Whatever you do in life, know that there is a possibility to find some humor and talk about it,’ he explained.

“I feel like it was important for me to once again find the light in the darkness and present that to the public, because I feel like there are so many people who are going through this,” concluded Marlon.

However, one thing he’s not joking about is his ex, Brittany Moreland’s custody battle over their daughter, Axl.

Marlon shares Kai, 24, and Shawn, 22, with ex Angela Zackery, and Axl, 18 months, with Brittany.

‘UNCONDITIONAL LOVE AND ACCEPTANCE’

Marlon first revealed that his son is transgender in November 2023 on the podcast, The Breakfast Club.

“I have a daughter who turned into a son,” he told the host.

“My daughter Amai is now Kai.”

Marlon then explained how he dealt with the transition.

“My transition as a father, going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance,” he said.

He ended by saying he hopes there are parents who can help, but by sharing their story.
