Hostel producers Chris Briggs and Mike Fleiss will return to work on the upcoming horror TV series, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

The program is still in the early stages of production and has no confirmed viewing platform.

The horror series is expected to have a “modern adaptation” with an “elevated thriller” and a “reinvention” of all three Hostel films that were released in the mid-2000s and early 2010s.

MORE ABOUT THE HOSTEL FRANCHISE

The 2005 film follows three friends who backpack through Europe.

After passing curfew and being locked out of their hotel in the Netherlands, they were persuaded to travel to Slovakia, where they stayed in a cheap hostel.

One thing led to another, where they were drugged and taken to dungeon-type rooms where rich people could pay to torture and kill tourists.

After the film was released, Slovakia was “offended” by the film and the way it portrayed the country.

“I am offended by this film. I think all Slovaks should be offended,” deputy Tomas Galbavy, a member of the parliamentary committee on culture, said at the time, via BBC News.

“This monstrosity that in no way reflects reality [and would] harm Slovakia’s good reputation.”

Even after the backlash, the franchise continued two years later when Hostel: Part II was released, which has a similar plot to the original.

In 2011, Hostel: Part III was released and revolved around a bachelor party headed to Las Vegas.
