JELLY Roll broke down in tears on stage at the CMA Festival while discussing her past drug addiction and stints in prison.
The 39-year-old country music star has reformed his life after battling substance abuse and spending a decade in and out of prison for various crimes.
Jelly Roll – whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord – became emotional as he reflected on his past during his performance at the festival on Saturday night.
On a TikTok shared by a concert goer, the country music star gave an emotional speech as he performed his upcoming song, Son of a Sinner.
“I was in that juvenile facility. I was in and out of prison. I was in and out of drug addiction and tonight I’m headlining CMA Fest in Nashville, Tennessee,” Jelly Roll said.
He took off his hat, looked at the crowd at Nissan Stadium and began to cry.
Clearly overcome with emotion, Jelly Roll picked up his hat and covered his face with it as he sobbed.
“I’m here to tell you that whatever you want to do in your life, you can do. I don’t give a fuck what anyone says to you,” he finally continued.
“I dedicate this song to all the people who live between right and wrong. This song is called Son of a Sinner.”
Jelly Roll first spent time in juvenile hall at age 13 after being caught with marijuana, according to the Guardian.
He told the outlet in November 2023 that he had tried most drugs by age 15 — pills, cocaine, acid, mushrooms, meth.
At age 16, he was charged with aggravated assault after trying to steal marijuana from someone with a gun and was sentenced to 18 months in prison.
He spent the next decade in and out of prison for aggravated robbery and possession with intent to sell cocaine.
His probation ended in December 2016, according to prison records.
“Prison was like a high school reunion for me. You walk in there and it’s like, ‘Oh, you’re still here, what’s up, man,'” he told the Guardian.
“The revolving door of the justice system is tough, man.”
Jelly Roll was last released from prison at age 25 and began building a music fan base, boasting a billion views on her YouTube channel before signing a record deal.
The Jelly Roll Weight Loss Journey

Jelly Roll opened up about her weight loss journey early last month.
In a recent interview with PeopleJelly Roll has revealed how much weight he has lost as he prepares for his US tour later this year.
“I probably lost 70 pounds,” he said.
“I’ve been really crushing it, man. I’m doing three to three miles a day, four to six days a week.
“I’m doing 20 to 30 minutes in the sauna, six minutes in a cold plunge every day. I’m eating healthy now.”
He admitted his goal is to lose another 100 pounds.
“If I feel this good at this weight, man, I can only imagine how I’m going to feel when I go on tour,” he concluded.
The musician – who is married to model and businesswoman Bunnie XO – reflected on the kinship he feels with the young offenders and recovering addicts he considers his fans.
He admitted that he cries almost every night he’s on stage, usually while celebrating people in the audience who are in recovery.
“It’s sad to say this, but there just aren’t many people who write the kind of songs I’m willing to write and talk about the topics I’m willing to talk about, and yet they’re so common,” he said.
In April this year, Jelly Roll revealed that she has lost 30 pounds since overhauling her diet and fitness regime.
He said he is “eating healthy,” walking three miles four to six days a week and doing 20 minutes in the sauna.
The rapper added that he plans to lose 100 pounds.
