R&B singer Angela Bofill has died at age 70, her publicist said.
The musician, best known for her tracks I Try and Angel of the Night, passed away in Vallejo, California, on June 13.
News of her death was shared on the artist’s Facebook page.
The cause of the singer’s death was not disclosed.
Rich Engel, her friend and manager, said he was saddened to share the news of her death.
Tributes poured in from across the music industry.
“We are sad,” said singer Sheila Escovedo.
“The Escovedo family sends our deepest condolences.”
“Rest, ma’am,” said jazz trumpeter Tom Browne.
Fans were heartbroken by Bofill’s death as they recalled their memories of watching the star in action.
Weeks before her death, Bofill was moved by how many listeners she had.
In May, she shared a publish this revealed that she had over 290,000 new listeners in 28 days.
“That’s a lot of birthday presents, thank you,” she said.
Her death comes just a few years after she was the victim of a cruel hoax.
Bofill, from New York City, spoke about this experience in an interview with lifestyle magazine Essence in 2020.
Bofill said she was inundated with calls after rumors began to spread.
“Friends calling [saying]. ‘Oh my God, am I talking to the ghost of Angela Bofill?!” she said.

She revealed that she laughed when people started posting tributes.
Bofill battled health problems after suffering two strokes in 2006 and 2007.
The stroke in 2006 paralyzed her on one side and she was unable to speak, so The Washington Post.
Bofill suffered his second stroke in July 2007, before returning to the stage in 2011.
Bofill was unable to sing following his jabs and joked that he was “happy to have a break” after being on the road for about 25 years.
Over the course of her career, which spanned more than five decades, she received several studio albums and was nominated for Best Female R&B/Soul Artist prior to the 1984 American Music Awards.
She told how she presented a trophy to Michael Jackson and was invited to the afterparty by Diana Ross, per Essence.
She said Ross liked her outfit.
Bofill was inducted into the Annual Women Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2023.
