Celine was forced to cancel her world tour due to Stiff Person Syndrome – a rare progressive neurological condition – which is incurable.

The star recently spoke to The Today Show star Hoda Kotb about the illness and shared that she stayed indoors for 4 years after starting to experience symptoms in 2008.

“I can’t go see my kids play golf. What if these people had seen me on stage two years ago and thought, ‘How come she’s taking care of her son and canceling shows? She’s not that sick.

“So I didn’t want people to see me, because if they saw me, I should be fine.

What is stiff person syndrome?

Stiff Person Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that progresses over time.

The condition causes pain and muscle spasms that worsen over the years.

According to Contact A Family, the condition is characterized by “progressive stiffness and painful spasms in the back and limbs, which are often triggered by touch, noise, or anxiety, and exacerbated by movement.”

There is currently no cure, but death from the disease is rare.

Sometimes, severe chest spasms can cause difficulty breathing.

“If I go out, I must be on stage. So I stayed inside the house. So, four years in there”, she revealed.

KEEPING THE FAITH

Celine’s documentary, I Am: Celine Dion, is set to be released on Prime Video on June 25th.

In the film’s trailer, the star shared more details about how she is coping with her condition.

Some clips from the trailer showed her working with a physical therapist and spending time outside with her family.

Celine also sparked hope that she could return to music, after crying while admitting how much she missed being on stage.

“If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl,” she said, before returning to the music studio at the end of the clip.
