In the interview, Björn, 79, spoke about the future from ABBA following their recent tribute.

Björn has been in the band – along with Agnetha Fältskog, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad – since 1972.

At the end of May, all of the bandmates gathered at the Royal Palace in Stockholm, Sweden.

ABBA were being honored by the Swedish royal family and received the Order of the Vasa for their “outstanding efforts in Swedish and international musical life”.

The event marked the first time the Order of the Vasa was awarded in 50.

“We stood there in silence, accepting it from the king’s hands and him saying a few words, it was a very peaceful and very elegant ceremony.

“Of course the four of us were there,” Björn said of the event on the Rosebud With Gyles Brandreth podcast, according to NME.

However, the pop music sensation added that he and his bandmates thought it might be “the last occasion” that ABBA would get together again.

When asked if ABBA met often, Björn said: “In public very rarely, and Frida [Anni-Frid Lyngstad] He told me afterwards: ‘This could be the last time.’

“Very sad, and I thought about it later, but we’re not getting any younger.”

Björn was also asked if ABBA could release new music, but he firmly rejected the idea.

“No, Voyage, the album was the last you will hear from us,” he said, referring to the album released in 2021.

However, just like the current ABBA Voyage show – which uses avatars of the band members as they appeared in 1979 along with pre-recorded vocals – Björn hinted that the group would not be against more technology experiences for fans.

Of course the four of us were there… and Frida [Anni-Frid Lyngstad] He told me afterwards: ‘This could be the last time.

Very sad, and I thought about it later, but we’re not getting any younger.

“There will be interesting new formats in the future that we know very little about at the moment.

“Oh, the metaversethere are a lot of interesting and exciting things happening creatively that ABBA can also be involved in,” he concluded.

WALKING ALONE

Although Björn said fans shouldn’t expect new music from ABBA, one of its members is paving his own path.

Last August, it was announced that ABBA member Agnetha was embarking on a solo music career after last releasing music in 2013.

The singer signed a record contract with BMG at the age of 73.

Agnetha released a single in August 2023, followed by an album, A+, in October.

“Agnetha loved being back in the studio with Abba and it inspired her to relaunch her solo career,” a source shared.

“She has been in regular contact for months with the team at BMG in London and they have helped develop her new sound.

“After a long time working on new music, there’s finally work she loves that’s ready to be released.”
