Sabrina stars pay tribute to Martin Mull after his death, as fans mourn beloved Gene Parmesean on Arrested Development

Tributes have poured in for iconic actor and musician Martin Mull after his family revealed he died earlier this week aged 80.

Mull died at his home on June 27 after a battle with a long illness, said his daughter, Maggie.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, Maggie wrote that her father was skilled in several disciplines.

“He would think that joke was funny. He never stopped being funny,” she he wrote.

“My father will be sorely missed by his wife and daughter, by his friends and co-workers, by fellow artists, comedians and musicians, and – the sign of a truly exceptional person – by many, many dogs. I loved him tremendously.”

Mull appeared in numerous roles throughout his multi-decade career, but was best known for his time as director Willard Kraft on Sabrina, the Teenage Witch.

Melissa Joan Hart, who starred as the show’s titular character, paid tribute to her beloved co-star.

“Rest in peace, my friend. The incredible #MartinMull (Director Kraft) has left us to his eternal rest,” she he wrote.

“I have fond memories of working with him and being in awe of his enormous body of work which before #SabrinaTheTeemageWitch included #Roseanne and #MrMom as the projects I knew him from.”

After Sabrina ended in 2003, Mull continued to pursue other roles, which Hart said was part of her character.

“He once told me that he takes every job he is offered if the train runs out, which in this case business tends to stop quickly,” she said.

“But he was an artist who liked to paint and build things with his hands, a musician and a wonderful man who is better to know. We will miss him, but this world has benefited from his presence here. family and friends.

“I will continue to treasure the Martin Mull artwork hanging in my home!”

Director Paul Feig took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his sadness over Mull’s death.

“Oh man, this is so sad. Martin was the greatest. So funny, so talented, so Cool dude,” he he wrote.

“I was lucky enough to perform with him on The Jackie Thomas Show and cherished every moment alongside a legend. Fernwood Tonight was very influential in my life.

“Rest in peace, Martin.”

Tom Arnold who appeared on Roseanne shared a photo himself, Mull, Judd Apatow and Arnold’s then-wife, Roseann Barr.

Mull played Leon Carp on the show, who later married his on-screen lover, Scott – played by Fred Willard – in one of the first gay marriages on TV.

“Roseanne, Judd Apatow and I are superfans of Martin Mull,” Arnold tweeted.

“He was a great comedian, actor, writer, artist, field goal kicker and neighbor.

“Martin has appeared every time we’ve asked since my first HBO Special to Roseanne for just answering our stupid questions on Fernwood Tonight. Martin was a great human being.”

Film critic Courtney Howard recalled first seeing Mull in the 1983 film Mr. Mom, writing that he had “world-class comedic timing.”

“However, it was his role as Gene Parmesan on Arrested Development that really captured my heart,” she he wrote.

“I can’t separate this role from the actor.”
