Blake and the punk princess started dating shortly after she filed for separation from Gavin.
Around the same time, he also announced his divorce from fellow country star Miranda Lambert, 40.
When remembering their first meeting in a new interview with ETthe Austin singer confessed that he and Gwen “didn’t talk much” during his first season on the show.
“You would see her in the red chairs if there was a production meeting or something and I feel like I met Pharrell. [Williams] more that year than I did, Gwen,” he explained.
“It wasn’t until the season she came back, the next season, that the pieces started to fall into place.”
FATHER’S DUTIES
A five-year relationship led to marriage in 2021, which allowed Blake to experience fatherhood for the first time.
The Oklahoma native became stepfather to Gwen and Gavin’s three sons, Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 10.
“If I could repeat these last 10 years, [that] it would be perfect,” he said, reflecting on his life with the pop star.
“Next month we have an 18-year-old, which I’m surprised has already happened. And in a few years, we will have another 18-year-old.
“And that… I think it’s going to be a lot more time alone, and I’m not mad about it either.”
He continued: “But we still have Apollo, so we still have almost 10 years before we can kick him out, so it should be a lot of fun.”
Blake also admitted that becoming a father changed him “in every way possible.”
“I learned quickly, not because anything happened, but just, you know, reading the room, you really have [to think]’I have to take a step back,'” he explained.
“When people say it’s not about you anymore when you have a kid… I think if you’re doing it right, it’s not about you anymore. That’s true.”
The country star added, “The example my dad set for me was that [child] was not even taken into consideration [in a romantic partnership].
“You have three boys? Amazing! My dad did this. My dad raised me. I could do this. I didn’t know what I was signing up for, but I was thinking about signing up.
“And every day I fell in love with the boys as much as I did with Gwen,” he shared.
If you had told me this in the first season we met – what was going to happen, I would have been like, ‘No, we actually don’t even have anything to talk about,’ you know?
