BRITNEY Spears threatened to take legal action against Halsey in a shocking social media post.
On Friday, Halsey released her new song and music video for Lucky.
In the music video, the star, whose real name is Ashley, channels her inner Britney as she samples her 2000s hit Lucky.
Halsey also appears to find inspiration in Britney’s Toxic music video, when she went nearly naked underneath a sheer, sparkly bodysuit.
However, Britney wasn’t a fan.
Oops! The I Did It Again singer shared a statement on X as the star deleted her Instagram profile.
Britney wrote: “For obvious reasons, I am very upset about Halsey’s video.
“I feel harassed, violated and intimidated,” she added.
The Gimme More singer continued: “I didn’t know an artist like her and someone I admired would portray me in such an ignorant way, adapting me like a superficial pop star with no heart or care.
“I have my own health issues which is why I removed my IG account yesterday.”
“I’m definitely going to put it back to show I care,” she spat.
Britney concluded: “I’m talking to my lawyers today to see what can be done about this matter. [sic] cruel.”
US Sun has reached out to Halsey’s rep for comment.
SUPPORT FOR BRITNEY
Fans rushed to the comments section of Post X to share their support for Britney while one person wrote: “We are with you Queen! You will forever be the Queen of Pop!” Stay strong Britney, we love you!”
“It definitely gave a mocking tone, I’m not going to lie,” a second fan commented.
Us [love] you. Definitely not cool, Halsey,” added a third.
Another commenter disagreed, writing “I ran to YouTube to watch Halsey’s video. I was prepared to be outraged. And I really don’t know what the problem is. haha.
“It’s a fabulous video and song. This response is extremely strange,” they added.
Another wrote: “I don’t understand that Halsey’s video is very nice and very well done. Make me like you more if it’s about your journey.”
They continued: “If it’s about her, it makes me like her more. And it can be about the two of you and I will like both of you.”
Just minutes after posting the scathing message, Britney responded with another tweet.
She wrote, “Fake news!!! That wasn’t me on my phone!!! I love Halsey and that’s why I deleted it!!!”
‘LUCKY YOU’
The music video for Halsey’s single Lucky tells the story of the relationship between pop stars and their fans.
It follows a teenager who idolizes Halsey, who appears to be modeled after Britney in the video, as she models her style and makeup after the singer while listening to the gossip surrounding the star.
The glamor of music videos and red carpets juxtaposes with the reality of the singer’s real life.
