Britney, 42, posted the news on the social media platform, adding that she was working with producer Marc Platt, who worked on La La Land.

On the same day, it was revealed that in addition to Marc, director Jon M. Chu, known for directing Wicked, is also attached to the project, according to Variety.

Universal Pictures won the rights to Britney’s memoir The Woman in Me at auction.

The book, released in October 2023, detailed Oops! The I Did It Again singer’s journey to stardom from her days on Disney’s Mickey Mouse Club to her tutelage.

It included details about her relationship with Justin Timberlake, as well as her contentious family ties.

Popular X account @PopCrave posted about the film on his page, leading to rampant speculation about who will star in the film.

WHO WILL BE?

In the comments, a fan wondered: “Who will play her? [Bobby Brown]?”

“Derrick Barry you auditioned,” another fan wrote, adding a photo of the RuPaul’s Drag Race star.

“There is literally no one who looks like young Britney. It will be difficult to fill a seat,” suggested a third X user.

“@TrishaPaytas now it’s your turn,” joked a fourth fan.

“Lowkey wants Sabrina Carpenter to play her,” wrote another commenter.

“Halsey is perfect to play her,” wrote a sixth social media user.

“Millie [Bobby Brown] should interpret it”, suggested another commenter.

Britney Spears Conservatorship Timeline

In September 2021, by Britney case was returned to a Los Angeles court where Judge Brenda Penny made a series of bombshell decisions, following her father’s decision to end the conservatorship the previous month.

She decided to free Jamie from her daughter’s guardianship, however, this did not mean the complete end of the guardianship.

Speaking in court, Judge Brenda Penny said: “Based on what I have read in the record and I have read everything. I believe that Jamie Spears’ suspension is in Britney Spears’ best interest.

“The current situation is unattainable. The court finds that the toxic environment Jamie Spears created needs to be removed today.”

After the judge’s ruling, a temporary conservator was placed in Jamie’s place for about a month.

In early November 2021, Jamie returned to court presenting new legal documents that show he has stopped fighting.

Jamie had previously demanded $2 million in exchange for his resignation, but documents at the time showed he was not seeking any additional compensation.

On November 12, Judge Penny ruled in the pop star’s favor, removing Jamie as conservator without requiring any additional mental examination of Britney.

“The best choice,” commented a seventh fan, adding a photo of Emma Watson alongside Britney.

“Only a dramatic actor can accomplish this difficult task,” someone else wrote, adding a GIF of Anna Faris.

McKenna Grace and Miley Cyrus were also widely suggested in the comments.

WHAT WE KNOW

On Thursday, Britney tweeted about the film on X.

“I’m excited to share with my fans that I’m working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He’s always made my favorite movies…stay tuned,” she posted.

In addition to the rights to her story, Universal will have rights to Britney’s entire music catalog for the pic following an eight-figure deal.

“Britney has had an unbelievable career and it will be a huge challenge to fit it all into a feature film,” said a film source, according to a previous report in The US Sun.

“But she has been told in no uncertain terms that things will not be sugarcoated and that it will show all of her lows as well as her career-defining highs.”

They continued: “It will be difficult for her to watch, but she is involved in every aspect of the film and was part of the team that decided who would bring her story to the big screen.”
