Kristen’s husband, John Hughes, joined her on the show, which Hoda noted came three years after Kristen, 47, revealed they were having their first child via surrogate.

The anchor told viewers she hoped sharing her story would help others dealing with infertility.

Kristen and John welcomed their first child, daughter Margot Lane, in June 2021.

“Meeting Margot was the best moment of our lives,” Kristen said during an at-home interview about her growing family.

She also said that she and John tried for “over a year” to give their daughter a sibling and discovered they were expecting shortly after accepting her job as a Meet the Press moderator.

LONG JOURNEY

The Pennsylvania native was open about her infertility journey and the challenges she faced having children.

“I was 40 when I married John in March 2017. And we immediately started trying to have a baby,” Kristen said on Today in 2021.

“It didn’t work right away. So we thought, ‘Let’s go to the doctor just in case.'”

Kristen then described her two-year struggle to conceive, going through several rounds of IVF before deciding to go the route of surrogacy.

“Being matched with a surrogate is one of the most extraordinary experiences I’ve ever had,” said the TV star.

“Our replacement has been amazing. I can’t explain how wonderful she has been,” added her husband, John.

“For her, it was about giving us something that she felt a deep connection to.”

The couple also said they wanted more children in the future and considered adoption.

She announced the change last June, again on the show with Savannah and Hoda.

“Chief White House Correspondent, Saturday anchor for Weekend Today, and now we can announce: new moderator for Meet the Press,” revealed Savannah.

Kristen beamed with excitement as Savannah boasted about her work, calling her “one of the best, most capable, wonderful colleagues we have.”

A MEANINGFUL GOODBYE

“My Today show family, you have always supported me and right now I am so grateful,” Kristen responded.

“This is truly the honor of my life.”

Kristen replaced Chuck Todd on Meet the Press and became the second woman and first black journalist to moderate the program.

“I am so lucky, proud and truly humbled that after nearly a decade of serving as an extraordinary work moderator, Chuck is the one passing the baton to me,” Kristen said during her announcement.
