Marlon Wayans ‘broke down and cried’ on stage after finding out his father died just before stand-up show – The US Sun

MARLON Wayans has admitted to crying on stage shortly after his father’s death.

The comedian said fans were there to comfort him.

After showing a clip from his upcoming comedy special Good Grief, Good Morning America host Michael Strahan asked Marlon, 51, if he felt uncomfortable sharing such personal things on stage.

“No, I don’t know why, but on stage I’m the most vulnerable,” he said.

“I cry more on stage.”

His father died 15 minutes before he took the stage.

“I played two shows. It was a small place, Flappers, and I was releasing material. And my dad died and I spent an hour and a half on stage and it was hilarious. I got a standing ovation and then I just broke down and cried,” he said .

“I told the public what had happened.”

“When you allow yourself to be vulnerable like that, the support you receive from your fans is incredible,” said Marlon.

He said the crowd’s energy and support allowed him to get on stage and perform.

‘THANK YOU POP’

Marlon’s father, Howell, died on April 1, 2023, at age 86.

The actor shared a photo of himself and his father on Instagram, confirming the sad news.

Howell kissed Marlon on the head as Marlon smiled and held up a peace sign.

“Legend. When I was a kid, I asked my dad what you wanted to be when you grew up? He simply said ‘I wanted to be a man’ and I said ‘Aren’t I a lawyer? A doctor? An actor?’ He said ‘just a man’,” Marlon captioned the publish.

“I said ‘but every boy grows up to be a man.’ Dad said, ‘It’s not true.’ I asked ‘so what is a man?’ My father said, ‘A man takes care of himself and his responsibilities. His family is always FIRST. From that day on I wanted to be a MAN.”

“Thank you, daddy, for being a role model for all your boys. I pray that every young black man can grow up to be a man like you.”

He went on to say that his “boy loves him.”

Marlon ended up telling his father to kiss his mother for him.

“Tell her your babies miss her. I have two angels”, he concluded.

Marlon’s mother, Elvira Alethia, died in 2020, aged 81.

Marlon’s comedy special Good Grief arrives on Amazon Prime Video on Tuesday, June 4th.

The stand-up show will cover topics such as the death of his parents, his son’s transition and more personal aspects of his life.

Marlon said that nowadays he is very vulnerable on stage.

He said he would talk about difficult topics because he wanted “to provide laughs, but also lessons.”

After performing an hour and a half of striking, Marlon said he started crying on stage and told the audience that his father had just died.
