Host Savannah Guthrie first asked Kevin to clarify why he left the award-winning series, prompting him to talk about what would draw him back to filming.

The Field of Dreams star said he would return “under the right circumstances,” adding that he “needed the material to be ready at certain times.”

He also said he would consider returning if he could take on more projects beyond Yellowstone, saying he wants to work “more than once a year.”

Kevin starred in the first five seasons of the series, which premiered in June 2018.

The second half of Season 5 is expected to arrive on Paramount Network in November 2024.

Kevin announced in May 2023 that he was leaving the franchise, despite its enormous success.

Entertainment tonight first broke the news, claiming the decision resulted from the A-lister’s other filming commitments.

However, rumors circulated that there was allegedly drama between Kevin and the show’s co-creator, Taylor Sheridan.

“I’m disappointed,” Taylor said The Hollywood Reporter about Kevin’s departure.

“It truncates the closure of his character. It doesn’t change it, but it truncates it,” he added, insinuating that Kevin’s character, John Dutton, shouldn’t be on the show for the entirety of the series.

“My opinion of Kevin as an actor hasn’t changed,” Taylor continued.

“His creation of John Dutton is symbolic and powerful… and I’ve never had a problem with Kevin that he and I couldn’t resolve over the phone.

“But once lawyers get involved, people can’t talk to each other and they start saying things that aren’t true and trying to shift blame based on how the press or the public seems to be reacting.

“He took a lot of it on the chin and I don’t know if anyone deserves it. His movie seems to be a big priority for him and he wants to change the focus. I hope (the movie) is worth it – and that it’s good,” concluded Taylor.

At the time, Kevin had not spoken publicly about his decision.

The Bodyguard star was also embroiled in a nasty divorce battle with his now ex-wife, Christine Baumgartner.
