The beloved Good Morning America host took a break after his father passed away on June 19.

While he was away all of last week, George returned to his hosting duties on Monday alongside Gio Benitez and Rebecca Jarvis.

However, his return was only for one day as he remained off air for the rest of the week.

During his brief period back, George did not mention his father’s death; however, many believe this to be the reason for his recent absence.

George’s wife, Ali Wentworth, was the one who shared the news of her father-in-law’s passing via Instagram.

“The Reverend Robert George Stephanopoulos, PhD, Dean Emeritus of the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity passed away on June 19,” she wrote.

“He was my father-in-law and I loved him very much. He married us. He laughed with us. He debated our daughters. He praised my Thanksgiving turkey.

He loved ice cream. He was everyone’s advice. He married or baptized almost every Greek on the east coast. He was held in the highest regard. Many will miss him. Sagapo Padre Bob.” she concluded.

According to the reverend obituaryhis funeral was held in Ohio on Wednesday.

George returned on Thursday to say goodbye to Dr. Jennifer Ashton alongside Lara Spencer and Ginger Zee.

FAMILY FIRST

George’s absence is not the first time a GMA host has left his job as a host to attend to family matters.

GMA host Michael Strahan also disappeared from the show following his daughter’s cancer diagnosis.

In late October 2023, Michael revealed that his daughter, Isabella, was diagnosed with medulloblastoma.

After his cancer diagnosis, the former NFL star was frequently absent from the show to be by his daughter’s side.

Two weeks ago, Isabella shared that she had finished chemotherapy in an emotional vlog.

Good Morning America Anchors

Good Morning America airs on ABC from 7am to 9am EST, Monday through Friday. The program features a panel of anchors who discuss the week’s events and current news. Anchors appearing on the morning show include:

The college freshman celebrated the emotional moment with her GMA host dad.

Michael briefly returned to the show earlier this week, but was absent for most of it.

There is no word on whether he will return the following week.

WHERE IS ROBIN?

Good Morning America viewers didn’t just see two beloved hosts missing from the show, but three.

Robin Roberts is also absent from the show.

She was seen last week for a live segment in Portugal, but has since returned to her hosting duties.

While in Portugal, Robin was accompanied by his wife, Amber Laign.

Despite her brief coverage on GMA, it appears Robin extended her trip into a full vacation.

On her Instagram Story yesterday, Robin was seen kicking up her feet as she took in the panoramic views of the Duoro Valley.

In Robin and Michael’s absence, Gio Benitez and Rebecca Jarvis filled in as the adorable hosts.
