GMA anchor George Stephanopoulos was spotted leaving the studio weeks after suffering a major loss in his family.
Last month, the wife of US daytime TV presenter Ali Wentworth, 59, revealed the heartbreaking news that her father-in-law, Reverend Robert George Stephanopoulos, had died.
On Tuesday, George, 63, was photographed smiling and waving to fans as he left the Good Morning America filming studio in New York City.
The former White House correspondent wore a gray suit, light blue collared shirt and a darker blue patterned tie as he held a newspaper.
To mourn the loss of his loved one, he took time off from the morning show but returned this week.
‘HE WILL BE MISSED’
Ali shared the news on her Instagram — along with some throwback photos and a sweet message.
She said: “The Reverend Robert George Stephanopoulos, PhD, Dean Emeritus of the Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity passed away on June 19.
“He was my father-in-law and I loved him very much. He married us. He laughed with us. He debated our daughters. He praised my Thanksgiving turkey.
“He loved ice cream. He was everyone’s advice. He married or baptized almost every Greek on the East Coast. He was well respected.
“He will be greatly missed. Sagapo Padre Bob.”
‘I’M SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS’
Fans and celebrity friends alike sent positive vibes and condolences to the grieving family in the comments section.
GMA co-host Robin Roberts wrote, “Thinking of George, you and your wonderful family. Sending love and condolences.”
Al Roker’s wife, Deborah Roberts, commented, “Sending prayers of comfort to you, George, and your family!”
“My deepest condolences,” wrote actress Glenn Close.
One fan wrote: “So sorry for your loss, he seems like a wonderful man. Now you will have an angel watching over you all. Always moving news.”
“There is so much love oozing out of the images. Priceless. Wish him a beautiful journey and gentle comfort for you, your family and friends,” said a second.
Good Morning America Anchors

GEORGE AND ALI’S RELATIONSHIP
George met Ali on a blind date in 2001, and in the same year, the two got married.
The couple has two children: Elliott Anastasia Stephanopoulos, 21, and Harper Andrea Stephanopoulos, 18.
George and Ali now have empty children when Harper left for college last fall.
At the 35th Annual Colleague Spring Luncheon and Fall 2024 Collection Fashion Show in Beverly Wilshire, California, Ali spoke with People about not having children at home.
“We were traumatized at first and now it’s fun,” she said.
“It’s like, ‘Hey, we can watch whatever we want on TV. We can have dinner whenever we want. We could walk around naked if we wanted.
“It’s very liberating.”
