Former GMA-3 anchor Amy Robach opened up about a scary experience she had on the Fourth of July.
Amy shared the story on her podcast with her boyfriend, TJ Holmes.

Amy and TJ were discussing their Fourth of July traditions when she shared that the holiday made her “a little nervous” because when she was 14, her family members were struck by lightning during a thunderstorm.
“All these traditions kind of fell apart because of a Fourth of July when I was 14,” Amy said on the July 3 episode of the Amy & TJ podcast.
“Actually, it’s very serious.
“That’s when my parents were struck by lightning and so was my uncle.”
Amy says her family was celebrating the holiday together when her uncle was leaning against a tree that was struck by lightning.
“My parents were shocked next to him and he just broke down,” she said.
Amy said her mother, Joan, and father, Mike, were also seriously injured in the incident.
His father had to undergo CPR and his mother was “in the hospital for weeks”.
“My dad was in the ICU, but his sneakers exploded,” she added.
“His clothes had to be cut off.”
Sadly, Amy’s Uncle Jack died in the terrible accident.
Amy then warned listeners that “lightning kills.”
“The Fourth of July is one of those holidays where everyone is out and about and it tends to be a holiday with severe thunderstorms,” she added.
There is a 20% chance of rain and thunderstorms on July 4th this year where Amy and TJ live and work in New York City, according to the National Weather Service.
During the podcast episode, Amy said that she usually travels for the holidays, but that she will be spending the fourth one this year with TJ and her 11-year-old daughter Sabine.

TJ said the group considered leaving town for the holiday.
“The fireworks display here in the city is really good,” said TJ.
“But we also considered going to a lake, taking a boat, doing something else and just getting out of town.
“I kind of want to be out of New York on the 4th. But the fireworks display is amazing.”
Amy’s tragic story comes just weeks after she admitted to feeling “manipulative” when opening up about a side of herself that “no one knows about” except TJ.
In April, the couple opened up about their plans for the future after first making headlines in 2022 when it was revealed that the former anchors were dating behind their then-spouses’ backs.
