CBS’ The Equalizer has officially been renewed for Season 5, while fans are still questioning the fate of another beloved series.

The hit drama series, led by Queen Latifah, has been given another season for 2024-2025.

Latifah, 54, also executive produces the action series.

In addition to sports broadcasts, The Equalizer is currently the eighth most-watched program on CBS.

“The Equalizer, led by the incomparable Queen Latifah, has all the best elements of a powerful drama,” said CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach.

“The series is filled with suspense, heroism, high stakes and formidable characters that our audience roots for. We look forward to another dynamic season.”

Although the renewal was expected, the final decision awaited an agreement between Latifah and Universal Television, for Deadline.

Although Latifah has pushed for 20 or more episodes per season as opposed to the typical 18, the network believes Season 5 will not have a larger episode count.

CBS UPDATES

Last week, the network announced that Elsbeth has been renewed for a new season, joining the list of other returning CBS dramas and comedies.

It was also revealed that drama series So Help Me Todd and CSI: Vegas have been cancelled.

As of now, NCIS: Hawai’i is the only CBS scripted series that remains in limbo.

The NCIS spinoff debuted in 2021 and is currently in its third season.

Three other NCIS series are already confirmed for the next season: NCIS, NCIS: Sydney and the upcoming Young Gibbs prequel, NCIS: Origins.

Deadline added that NCIS: Hawai’i will likely have to make budget cuts to continue the series.

Another “best case scenario” would be for the program to air a partial 4th season with around 13 episodes.

NCIS: Hawai’i is the first in the franchise with a female lead, Vanessa Lachey, which had CBS Studios president David Stapf calling the series “Totally unique.”

Other cast members include Alex Tarrant (Kai Holman), Noah Mills (Jesse Boone), Yasmine Al-Bustami (Lucy Tara), Jason Antoon (Ernie Malik) and Tori Anderson (Kate Whistler).

‘READY FOR RIOT’

Last week, fans of the beloved spinoff series expressed concern about whether the show would be renewed or canceled.

“Given that NCIS was renewed along with the three FBI shows, is this an indication that we should be concerned about NCIS Hawaii being canceled?” one viewer asked on Reddit.

“For the past 2 years, NCIS Hawaii has been renewed in March,” they added.

NCIS: Hawai’i was renewed for Season 2 on March 31, 2022 and once again renewed for Season 3 on February 21, 2023.

“It wouldn’t look good if it wasn’t announced when the NCIS renewal was announced or when the 1,000th episode aired,” a second added.

“It hasn’t been renewed yet and it hasn’t been cancelled, so it’s still possible,” said a third.

“There could be an uproar if the franchise’s first minority, female-led POC program was NOT renewed. Just saying,” a fourth theorized.
