NCIS: Hawai’i was canceled by CBS after fans fell in love with the series’ characters.
NCIS: Hawai’i premiered in 2021 and is in the middle of its third season.
On Friday, CBS revealed it would not be returning for a fourth season, according to the Hollywood reporter.
The news comes just before the season and series finale on May 6.
The series stars Vanessa Lachey and LL Cool J, who also appeared on NCIS: Los Angeles.
Across three seasons, the show aired just 54 episodes, making it the shortest NCIS series.
The police show had 10 million viewers across all platforms in just 35 days.
While that’s an impressive number on most networks, it’s mediocre at best on CBS.
Its ratings plus the upcoming new series NCIS: Origins likely created the perfect storm that led to the show’s cancellation.
The original NCIS and NCIS: Sydney were also greenlit for the next season.
Fans have already begged the network to renew the show while other series received the green light.
Many even threatened to riot if the show didn’t have a fourth season.
GO TO SALVATION
Fans of the series on X, formerly known as Twitter, are mourning the show, and some want to know if there is a way to save the series.
One said: “We are truly heartbroken to announce that NCIS: Hawai’i will not be renewed for another season.
“While it doesn’t make sense to us, we want to thank the cast and crew and everyone involved in bringing this show to life for us.”
“Is there a way to #SaveNCISHawaii?” asked another.
A third added: “Bro, no, I’m donating money to keep it on air.”
“I love the program. If a lot of people complain, maybe they’ll renew it,” commented one fan.
A fifth wrote: “Sad to hear. It was a good show. I hope the characters get a chance to have closure like the other two shows.”
A sixth commented: “Cancelled ????? That’s really not fair,” with crying emojis.
Fans will have to wait until the end of the season to find out if the series and characters will be wrapped up.
It’s unknown if the show’s writers planned to cancel the series or if the season will end on a cliffhanger.
