Rainn, 58, first appeared on the daytime talk show on Thursday, May 9.

He came to talk about his new podcast, Soul expansionand some future projects.

However, the hosts had to ask Rainn about his iconic role as Dwight Schrute on the comedy The Office.

“I’m so glad we have you today because yesterday it was announced that a follow-up series to The Office will follow a dying local newspaper in the Midwest,” said co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin.

“And it supposedly takes place in the Dunder-Mifflin universe. Is there any chance we could get a Dwight cameo?”

Co-host Sunny Hostin said fans “need one.”

Rainn wondered if Alyssa, 34, would be able to get him on the show.

DWIGHT’S RETURN?

Rainn shared that he found out about the spinoff at the same time as everyone else when the announcement came out.

“I literally know nothing about it,” he admitted.

“I love the idea that they’re trying to do an Office spin-off, not at Dunder-Mifflin, not with the same characters, but with a documentary crew following a different workplace.

Rainn then explained whether or not he would like to return.

“But, of course, if Dwight Schrute appears in a newspaper in the Midwest, then I’ll be there,” he said.

The hosts and audience were all smiles after Rainn said he would love to return.

Variety announced that the show has been picked up to series on Peacock on May 8.

The official logline reads: “The documentary team that immortalized the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”

White Lotus’ Sabrina Impacciatore and Harry Potter star Domhnall Gleeson will lead the series.

Details of their characters remained secret.

The new show is scheduled to begin filming in July.

An official title has not yet been announced.

“It’s been more than ten years since the final episode of ‘The Office’ aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock,” said Lisa Katz, President of Content from NBCU Entertainment.

“In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the Dunder Mifflin universe features a new cast of characters in a new setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.”

Greg Daniels, who created the American series, will be co-creator of the new one, Michael Koman.

They are also executive producers, along with Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant, who created the UK version of the series.

The American version of The Office ran on NBC for nine seasons.

Rainn also said he loves the concept of the new show, where it's a completely different set of characters in a documentary-type setting.
