LAW & Order star Camryn Manheim has announced that she is leaving the NBC series after three seasons.
The actress plays New York police lieutenant Kate Dixon in the procedural since its 2022 revival.
Law & Order is currently in its 23rd season and Camryn will not return for season 24.
The show’s season finale, on May 16, will be the actress’ last episode.
On Friday, Law & Order creator Dick Wolf shared the news in a statement.
“I thank Camryn for her three wonderful seasons that helped us relaunch Law & Order,” he wrote in a note, Variety reports.
“She is a class act and I wish her nothing but the best for her next chapter,” the show creator added.
Fans are already mourning the loss of Camryn from the cast and her character on the series.
“Man this is such a bummer,” one fan tweeted, while a second said, “This is so sad.”
“A true loss,” wrote a third X user (formerly Twitter), adding that “Camryn was REAL.”
“They can’t keep people on this show,” said another upset viewer.
“IMO she deserves better than writing on this show anyway,” admitted one fan online.
CAMRYN’S SURPRISING BEGINNING
Law & Order originally aired on NBC from 1990 to 2010 for 20 seasons.
Just over a decade later, the broadcaster announced in 2021 that it would bring the beloved program back.
Season 21, the first season of the revival, premiered on February 24, 2022.
Decades before Camryn joined the show as Dixon, her first TV role was a guest spot on the show’s original run as a character named Leila in 1991.
She later returned for a few more guest roles on the show as different characters.
Camryn’s departure isn’t the only departure from the cast this season.
CAST CHANGES
Sam Waterston, who had been on the show since the original fifth season, left his role as Manhattan District Attorney Jack McCoy in February.
Following his departure, Scandal star Tony Goldwyn joined as Nicholas Baxter, the new prosecutor.
“Some very big shoes to fill! The first episode ended with DA Nicholas Baxter,” Tony wrote on Instagram. “Thank you to the L&O family for being so welcoming!”
Before her departure was announced, Camryn revealed that the cast was “tey-eyed” over Sam’s departure.
“He is the honor, the integrity, the grace of our show and he is passing the baton to Tony Goldwyn, as you know, but his legacy lives on,” she said on Live with Kelly and Mark.
“They just don’t make them like Sam anymore. I say he is the real McCoy,” she added.
