However, So Help Me Todd creator said it was too late to try and fix it.

The finale was written and filmed before CBS found out the show was canceled.

The cliffhanger included Merritt Folding, the founding partner of the show’s central law firm, who had never been seen before, appearing.

And Merritt showed up just as Todd (Skylar Astin) discovered that Margaret Wright’s (Marcia Gay Harden) promotion was part of Merritt’s plot to frame her for his illegal activities.

However, this time, fans won’t see how it happens.

And they never get a full look at Merritt, as only her feet were shown.

Fans were angered by the cliffhanger, but the So Help Me Todd creator explained the reasoning behind it.

TOO LATE

So Help Me Todd creator Scott Prendergast said Deadline that they dropped the cliffhanger at the beginning of the season.

Since the executives thought they would return for the third season, they told them to go ahead.

“We wanted to do a kind of Empire Strikes Back ending on a dangerous note,” he said.

“By the time we found out we had been cancelled, it was too late,” Scott explained.

“It’s been a month since we filmed that episode. We found out on April 19. We wrapped production at the end of March.”

However, Scott offered fans some relief by telling the outlet that they are trying to shop So Help Me Todd to a different network.

‘PERFECTLY TODD’

“What kills me most is that I know how the series was really supposed to end. It was perfect. Emotional, full circle and perfectly Todd,” he he wrote.

In his tweet, fans begged him to give a proper ending even if it wasn’t up to him.

“We want a proper ending,” one fan pleaded.

“We are all devastated that #SoHelpMeTodd has been cancelled. Not just because it ended on that cliffhanger, but it’s so unique and fun and joyful and interesting.

“I’m still hoping someone continues the show! It’s terrible when we don’t feel like we’ve gotten closure! That’s Zoey’s playlist again. I’m so sad we won’t see more of Alison’s character development,” one fan responded.

Skylar also starred in Zoey’s Playlist.

“It was such a good show!! I’m still upset! Hoping someone picks up this show and gives it a proper ending with more seasons!” said one last fan.
