Chicago Police Department viewers think they’ve figured out what’s next after a character leaves.
The season 11 finale of Chicago PD saw Hailey Upton leave the show, but fans don’t think she’ll be gone for good.
In the episode that aired on Wednesday, Hailey – played by Tracy Spiridakos – raced to save her boss, Voight, from a serial killer.
Hailey was shot at the scene, but she and Voight managed to escape with their lives.
The pair went to the hospital after the traumatic moment, and Hailey tearfully revealed that she wanted to leave Voight’s police department and start over.
Later, at home, the officer was seen researching FBI jobs on her laptop before hopping in a taxi and heading to Chicago O’Hare Airport.
On X, formerly known as Twitter, fans thought Hailey’s internet search was an easter egg that hinted at her future.
Dick Wolf, the producer behind Chicago PD, also runs a franchise of FBI shows, and fans thought that was where Hailey might be headed.
“Where did Hailey go? The taxi took her to @Fly2OHare. Did she sign up for the #DEA? #FBI? (If she goes to the FBI, she might get into one of #DickWolf’s other three #TheFBIs programs)” noted one user of social media.
“Our girl is looking for better things,” wrote a second.
“I will never forgive a certain showrunner for making the last crew member Hailey talked to on screen be Voight… BUT… She’s going to O’Hare!!!!!!
“Did you see how little she brought? HAILEY GOES TO JAY! AND ALSO THE FBI THING! GIRL CAN DO CAMEOS AT FBIs!!” said a third fan, referring to Hailey’s ex Jay Halstead.
“I wish Hailey and Jay went to FBI Most Wanted,” shared another viewer of the cop show.
“Was she going to meet Jay? I saw DEA, FBI and FEMA so I think they were hinting at it maybe?” a fifth person wrote.
“She left to join the FBI,” a final commenter agreed.
HAILEY’S FUTURE
Although fans have big plans for Hailey’s future, Tracy and Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan kept their cards close to their chest when talking about the character’s departure.
I have my own version of where she went and what she did, but we wanted this ending to represent hope and opportunity and possibility. And then the more open you are, the more you will get that feeling.

“You know what, I didn’t fill in the blank for her about what the ending is or what the answer is to where she’s going on the way to the airport.
“What I really loved about this ending is that we finally get to see her happy. We get to see her find herself and do something that’s for her,” Tracy said of Hailey to Variety.
Gwen also spoke about the show’s decision to give Hailey a mysterious final chapter.
“I have my own version of where she went and what she did, but we wanted this ending to represent hope and opportunity and possibility. And so, the more open you are, the more you will have that feeling,” said the television executive. shared.
Tracy was also asked if she would “return” to the show and exclaimed: “Yes, I would love to, it would be amazing. It would be a dream.”
‘BOYCOTT’
Despite Hailey’s departure, fans were very worried that another beloved character would leave the series in a more dramatic way.
Chicago Police Department viewers swore that if Voight was killed, they would stop watching the show forever.
“You better be okay or I will never watch this show again is all I will say,” one person wrote on the show’s official Instagram page.
“We need to boycott them. If Voight is out, so am I,” said a second firmly.
Fortunately, Hailey reached her boss in time to prevent any drastic measures from fans.
