FANS of Young Sheldon have had the last laugh after the recently canceled show found new life on Netflix.

CBS canceled The Big Bang Theory spin-off last year in a move that shocked viewers.

Young Sheldon aired its final original episodes on May 16.

Nearly 9 million people tuned in to say goodbye, making this the show’s most-watched episode in four years.

And now a whole new audience is discovering and falling in love with Sheldon Cooper’s nerdy childhood on Netflix.

The first five seasons of Young Sheldon were released on the streamer last November and, in the last two months of the year alone, they were streamed more than 88 million times, according to Deadline.

More than 26 million watched just the first season, while another 17 million clicked on the second season.

Angry fans, who are still upset about CBS’ decision to cancel the show, flooded social media with “I told you sos.”

“I bet CBS realized they made a huge mistake by not keeping young Sheldon around for at least another season or two,” one person posted online.

“I wish Netflix and others would realize that canceling all shows after a few seasons is not the way to build a loyal audience for television shows,” criticized another.

A third added: “I would sacrifice my parents for another season of Young Sheldon.”

SHEL SHOCKED

CBS announced the end of the show last November, before the final season even began airing.

Amy Reisenbach, president of CBS Entertainment, made a statement at the time, saying, “As a prequel to one of the greatest comedies, Young Sheldon proved that lightning can strike twice.

“It was distinguished by a remarkable cast that felt like a family from the first moment we saw them on screen and brought the characters to life with unique, heartfelt stories that appealed to audiences from the start.”

She also thanked executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steve Molaro and Steve Holland, as well as the writing and production teams.

Who stars in The Big Bang Theory spin-off Young Sheldon?

Young Sheldon ended its seven seasons in May 2024. Check out the cast of The Big Bang Theory spin-off:

  • Iain Armitage as Sheldon Lee Cooper
  • Zoe Perry as Mary Cooper
  • Lance Barber as George Cooper Sr.
  • Montana Jordan as George Marshall “Georgie” Cooper Jr.
  • Raegan Revord as Melissa “Missy” Cooper
  • Annie Potts as Constance “Connie” Tucker
  • Emily Osment as Amanda “Mandy” McAllister

The three executive producers also released a statement about the series finale: “Being able to tell the origin of Sheldon Cooper and expand the story to include the entire Cooper family was a wonderful experience.

“We are grateful to our fans for embracing this chapter of the Coopers over the past six seasons, and on behalf of the entire Young Sheldon family, we are thrilled to share this final season with you.”

TO BE COMPLETED

Young Sheldon is joined by another well-received spinoff that is coming to an end.

After keeping fans in suspense, ABC has finally announced that the long-running comedy The Conners will come to an end next year.

The Roseanne reboot, which recently hit the 100-episode mark, received a shortened order, giving the cast and crew a fitting send-off.

Cast members including John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert and Lecy Goranson are expected to return.

The Conners originally emerged from a previous Roseanne reboot, which was canceled after just one season after series star Roseanne Barr was fired for going on a series of racist and Islamophobic rants on what was then known as Twitter.

Network executives decided to revamp the show, keeping the rest of the cast, including star John Goodman, and changing it to focus on the Conner family as a whole.
