ACTOR Ebon Moss-Bachrach has spoken about his character in beloved comedy Girls.
The 47-year-old opened up alongside his co-star Allison Williams about their infamous singing scenes, which were helped by Taylor Swift’s producer Jack Antonoff.
Ebon and Allison reunited seven years after the show ended for an interview with Vanity Fair.
The duo, whose characters were romantically linked on the show, performed a song during the show as their roles examined a music career.
Ebon told a funny anecdote about his music.
“I found out the other day that most of our songs were dropped from Kelly Clarkson,” Ebon laughed.
The pair laughed and Allison nodded in response.
“I think the song Breathless was written by Jack Antonoff for Kelly Clarkson,” she added.
“The one that said ‘And I’m going to ride my bike, oh-oh-oh,’” she sang to Ebon.
Ebon added “Ah, yes” and nodded.
Ebon commented that she liked the song and Allison agreed.
“It’s a great song, it [Kelly] we should have done it, but we got it done as a result,” Allison said.
The two then recalled their roles as singers on the show and revealed that they often genuinely sang while on the television stage.
“No one had high expectations that felt safe to me,” Ebon added in reference to the fact that he was not known as a serious singer before the show.
“I tried as hard as I could,” Ebon added and Allison burst into laughter.
SHOW TIME
Allison added that she was aware it was for a comedy show, so she didn’t feel pressure to give it her all.
Ebon admitted that he felt pressured to perform to the best of his ability despite being known as an actor and not a musician.
“The lyrics were very specific and kind of innocent and embarrassing,” he listed.

“Even if Leonard Cohen could sing them and they still sucked, you know what I mean?”
Allison joked that they would sound good if Leonard sang them and Ebon agreed.
She then added that she would “never recover” if she tried her best and then people laughed at her on the show.
CANCELED?
HBO’s Girls was canceled in 2017 after its sixth season after creator Lena Dunham thought it had reached a natural conclusion.
“We were always conscious, especially as the show was a lightning rod at times, of overstaying its welcome,” said Lena the Hollywood reporter.
“We were very blessed to have the experience of people continuing to engage with the show in a really rabid way after four – almost five – years.
“We wanted to make sure we kept the momentum alive and didn’t allow it to wane over time,” she added.
Lena suggested that it was written for a specific age in the character’s life that they had already outgrown.
“It seems like at this point it makes sense for us to bring closure to their stories,” she said.
Ebon has played several television roles since Girls, most recently as “Cousin” Richie on Disney’s The Bear.
In the series, he plays a relative of Jeremy Allen White’s character as they run a restaurant under high pressure and face family grief.
Allison has also had a varied career, with recent projects including the political thriller television show, Fellow Travelers, launching in 2023.
