Jason George, 52, has reached a deal to return to the main cast of the ABC medical drama for the upcoming 21st season, according to Deadline.

George played Dr. Ben Warren on Grey’s Anatomy before helping launch the spin-off series Station 19 in 2018.

He first appeared on the long-running medical drama during its sixth season, before joining the main cast from seasons 12 to 14.

For the past seven seasons, George has appeared as a series regular on the Seattle-set firefighter drama, while also making frequent appearances on the parent series, both produced by Shondaland and ABC Signature.

Station 19’s main cast included Grey’s Anatomy transplant Stefania Spampinato, who reprized her role as Carina DeLuca.

There are no current plans for her character to return to Grey’s Anatomy.

George has been part of the Shondaland family for more than two decades — in addition to his appearances on Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19, the actor was also a regular on the company’s 2011 medical drama Off The Map.

George’s return comes as Grey’s Anatomy prepares to say goodbye to series regulars Jake Borelli and Midori Francis – who will be wrapping up their character arcs this fall.

His character, Ben Warren, ended the seventh and final season of Station 19 by setting up a return to Grey’s Anatomy, as during the series finale he told his captain, Andy Herrera, played by Jaina Lee Ortiz, that he would return to Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital to finish his surgical residency.

The parent series left the door open for Ben’s return, as in 2017, as a fifth-year resident at Gray Sloan, he found a way to pursue his dream second career as a firefighter without compromising his chances of returning to complete his residency if he chooses to do this.

Ben had a deeper connection with Gray Sloan through his marriage to Miranda Bailey, played by Chandra Wilson, which was revisited with one last crossover at the end of season 20 of Grey’s Anatomy.

Fans seemed to see Georg’s announcement coming, with many predicting he would return to the drama series following Station 19’s cancellation.

“This was expected to happen considering he is still married to Miranda,” wrote a fan on X.

“Yeah, I figured he’d be back,” tweeted another.

“LMAOOOO, I knew this would happen. Jason George keeps a job for himself!!!” commented a third.

END OF SERIES

Last month, Station 19 aired the series finale after it was canceled in December.

The finale, and much of the final season, did a lot to set up George’s return to Grey’s – as his character had been using his medical training more throughout the season, even before revealing he was ready to return to the operating room .

At the time of the final episode, a source said Deadline that “there is no agreement in place and the exact capacity in which Jason would return to Grey’s Anatomy is unclear, but negotiations are ongoing.”

“The intention is to have him back on the program full time.”

After the finale, producers Zoanne Clack and Peter Paige expressed that they would like to continue with Station 19 because they have many more stories to tell.

They talked to People about a way to possibly save the show.

“I think we would be happy to go back to these waters,” Peter said after being asked about a possible collection.

“There was a moment when it seemed like there was a realistic possibility of someone intervening, and then that disappeared. So it felt like, ‘Okay, we need to honor what’s here to be honored.'”

However, he shared that if anyone comes to her and says they want to renew the show, he and Zoanne will “work it out.”

STATION 19

ABC has canceled Station 19 after seven seasons.

The series was based on the lives of Seattle 19 firefighters.
